Ada: A Way Of Life Audio Review- Hindi
Movie: Ada- A Way Of Life (2011)
Director: Tanvir Ahmed
Cast: Ayaan Ahmed , Rahul Roy, Ayesha Jhulka & Naushad Caurishi
Music: A.R.Rahman
Ada... A Way of Life is a 2011 Hindi musical film written and directed by Tanvir Ahmad, with music by A. R. Rahman. Rahman composed the songs for Ada in 2001, after completing the score for Lagaan, but Ahmad's plans for the film were shelved. Though the music was composed for the original concept, the film features a new script as well as different actors, as it stars debuting actor Ayaan Ahmed, the director's son. Along with its notable composer, the soundtrack also features award-winning singer Jayachandran, contributing vocals for the first time to a Hindi language film.
The soundtrack was released on 20 May 2008. The film was scheduled to be released on 31 December 2009 but released a year later on 24 December 2010.
When ever Rahman is at podium he does complete justice to his work, same happens here. When Rahman has completed scoring music early in 2001 but film got released in 2011 due to unknown reasons, I think reviewing its audio in 2017 is also fine.
01. Ishq Ada (Male)
Singers: Rashid Ali
Lyrics: Raqeeb Alam
Rating: 3.5/5
The first track opens to youthful exuberance. It has all the trendy and peppy instrumentation which attracts the youth towards it. Rahman has typical ways of composing music, he does'nt need any proper rhythm pattern nor tune to make a song, he makes music as his heart pleases, that is the reason why most of his songs sounds fresh and soulful. Here also Rahman uses all those string instruments, typical drum beats, thumba, flute, recorders and mild shehanayi to make the song sound youthful in all its means. Rashid Ali at vocals does a very fine job. He adds all ingredients which make the song more youthful. His voice has some soothing effect on our years, without making it too harsh contrary to the peppy instrumentation. Overall this song lacks some where and may work on repeated hearings. But leaves a different feel on the listeners.
02. Hawa Sun Hawa
Singers: Sonu Nigam & Alka Yagnik
Lyrics: Nausrat Badr
Rating: 5/5
When Rahman has decided to steal our hearts, who could stop him from doing that? Probably no one. This song is the best example to show how he could steal our soul without our presence. "Hawa Sun Hawa" , whenever this phrase is sung, it will definitely lead you to some ethereal state of music, where you feel like angels dancing and singing with pleasant music played by Rahman. Rahman uses excellent flute to make the melody much better. We know Rahman is the best user of Flute and he uses it very minimally in this song, which makes us wait for its presence to come. In that waiting the song gets over, so Rahman is highly intelectual in taking the listeners into his trans. A Rahman melody which sums upto 6 minutes is just enough to make you sleep happily, forgetting the world beside you. Rahman delivering this melody itself is a feast for ears, & top of that Sonu Nigam at vocals makes the melody sound at great heights. Sonu is as usual soothing, pleasant and amazing, its nothing new for him. Then slowly joins Alka with her soothing effect over the song. We know Alka almost sounds like Lata ji and mild Asha ji, she has been successful in not bringing them into our mind when she renders this melody. She was at her own style making it pleasant to our ears.
03. Gum Sum Gum Sum
Singers: Sonu Nigam & Alka Yagnik
Lyrics: Nausrat Badr
Rating: 3.5/5
A song which cannot be categorized into a melody or dance song. Rahman confuses us in this song with his harmonical instrumentation. His instruments like tabala, drums beaten for every single phrase make us feel whether it is a dancing song or what? But Sonu's singing tells us that it is a simple duet which is weaven in the form of melody and peppy beats. Only Rahman can do these type of experiments. Again Sonu & Alka rope together for another duet, but which is not as satisifactory as above one. Sonu made it quiet tolerable with his expressions which elavated the song, but Alka again turned to her own form making the song creepy and squeaky.
04. Gulfisha
Singers: Sonu Nigam & Sunidhi Chauahn
Lyrics: Nausrat Badr
Rating: 4.5/5
Fourth song is a beautiful duet with a melodious tune injected into exuberant instrumentation. Rahman makes it quiet good and fresh by injecting all those heavy beats which accompany the vocals as icing on cake. The tune sounds peppy and melodious as well, which is excellently performed by the lead duo- Sonu & Sunidhi. Sonu renders a expressive track making it in his own style. Where as Sunidhi renders a sensuous vocal suiting to the context and lyric. Over all leaves a good effect on the listeners.
05. Meherbaan
Singers: A.R.Rahman & Sanjeev Thomas
Lyrics: Nausrat Badr
Rating: 5/5
A romantic male solo, that every man promises his girl to do so. Its a soothing melody with rich orchestration. The violens which accompany the vocals sound fresh and highlight of the track. Simple keyboard is played all over the song. Coming to lyrics, every phrase is kept simple, written romantically and every line is thoughtful making the song more interesting to listen. Nausrat has written too many comparisons in the song like "tu hai sagar main hoon kinara, tu hai pani main hoon nadiya" etc and last saying "Meherbaan" sounds good and also make us remind the lyric written in "Choti choti si asha" in the film Roja, where the whole song is of 16 desires or comparisons . A beautiful Rahman melody sung by Rahman himself makes it more better. Whenever Rahman sings the track, it will be a hit, because he induces soul of singing into the magic weaven by himself.
06. Tu Mera Hai
Singers: K.S.Chitra, Sukhwinder Singh & Naresh Iyer
Lyrics: Nausrat Badr
Rating: 5/5
After listening to this track one would definitely not know, whether Rahman's music/ Nausrat's lyrics/ Vocals is best. Such would be the feel after listening to the song. The song starts with a beautiful keyboard and veena and then gives a kick start with gaint violens and again comes into melodious form and again turns into high note. This all happens in Rahman's music. Did anyone expect Chitra would accompany throaty Sukhwinder so well. She hence proves she is queen of genres. Chitra really gives a powerhouse performance, the range she has sung is really difficult for even a male singer. The way she extended the high pitched notes shows her caliber in music. Sukhwinder was also amazing, but Chitra has stolen all our hearts before Sukhwinder decided to do that. Chitra is the most underrated singer in bollywood, but the problem is she has not got her due properly like that of other singers. Otherwise she is the top most singer in India. Naresh Iyer has given a soothing performance accompaniying Chitra and Sukhwinder, overall song sounds amazing. Rahman's music is overlooked as 3 singers rocked the stage.
07. Hai Dard
Singers: Udit Narayan
Lyrics: Nausrat Badr
Rating: 5/5
A melancholic song filled with pathos. This song seems to be strange to believe that Rahman has composed this song. Because Rahman never uses those over emotional tunes which are trending now'a'days. But this was too good. Rahman contrarily uses drums and electronic guitars, but surprisingly those instrumenta also add to catch up the situation. Song starts with a strange music which is easily mistaken to be a background of a comedy song, but later transfers into pure melancholic melody. Its too good to hear Udit Narayan back with this song of Rahman. Udit-Rahman combo has been always successful whether it is from Chor-Chor, Rangeela, Bombay, Muthu, Dil Se, Lagaan, Swades etc. This is another hit sweeping into their successful back pack. Udit Narayn always tries to elevate the song with his amazing expressive renditions, here also happens the same, he even makes us cry at the end, with his emotional rendering of Rahman's melody. Who else can be the choice to this song other than Uditji, Hats off sir.
08. Ishq Ada (Female)
Singers: Parul Mishra
Lyrics: Raqueeb Alam
Rating: 4.5/5
The song Ishq Ada has been presented in female version, which is good to listen. As I always say, when there are two versions of same song comparisons are common. Male version was full of youthful exuberance and peppy, but this song had the other way. This is serious, classical and more better than male version. As I already told inspite of Rahman's magical fresh tune and Rashid Ali's soothing vocals that version lacked something unknown making it unappealing. But this version has covered the feel of something unappealing, Rahman induced some classical notes in between and made slight changes in tune as well as instrumentation, which sounded perfect. This version seems to be like a song which covered the backlogs in the previous version. Parul Mishra was sweet, cute and good.
09. Milo Wahaan
Singers: P. Jayachandran & Alka Yagnik
Lyrics: Naushrat Badr
Rating: 4.5/5
Again Rahman takes us into trans where melody exists. This was like that of Hawa Sun Hawa, its just a camparison in genre, but this song had a melancholic feel all over the song, which was very soothing to listen. Rahman has added all ingredients to make the song sound melancholic romantic duet. The vocals feature Alka for third time in the album and P.Jayachandran for first time debuting into hindi cinema with this song. Their vocals worked as magic to the song. This song was like a waterfall coming from top and landing very deep on the earth, when we hear the phrase "Milo Wahan" you will understand why I have used that line above. Alka was too good, but she had problem while singing higher octave notes, which can be overlooked for Rahman's admirable work. Jayachandran almost sounds like Yesudasji, and one can easily get confused with Jayachandran's voice mistakening him with Yesudasji. However we can make out the difference between two, where Jayachandran's voice lacks the energy and magical cast spell over Yesudasji's voice. Jayachandran adds more of malayalam accent in singing Hindi songs, this is audible when he says "chalo chale wahan hum khal the mile". Put everything vanishes infront of those poetical lyrics and amazing instrumentation.
10. Meherbaan
Instrumental
Rating: 5/5
A beautiful instrumental piece of Rahman's Meherbaan. This was the same instrumental of the main track "Meherbaan" but now without the vocals . Instrumental was short , neat and soothing. The vilen piece in between was too good, and rest was plain keyboard played by Rahman himself, I guess. Nothing more to speak about this.
