Katamarayudu Audio Review

Movie: Katamarayudu (2017)

Director: Kishore Kumar (Dolly)

Producers: Sharath Marar

Cast: Pavan Kalyan, Shruthi Hassan

Music: Anup Rubens

Pawan Kalyan after Sardar Gabbar Singh, is coming back with Kaatamarayudu a remake of Tamil film Veeram. The making visuals, his attire, the sword and many others created a great buzz among the fans. The Tamil movie has Tamannah as female lead, vs Shruti Haasan in Telugu. DSP composed music for Veeram, whereas this time Pawan chooses Anup to compose music for this movie. This film also followed the latest trend - the Pre-release function even though in similar format as audio function, the songs were released one by one setting the hype and mood of the fans.

Pawan's movies doesn't need any introduction about the movie, as everyone is up-to date on the movie and its information. The entire audio is now released and it has 6 songs with a love theme instrumental as additional track. RJS, Ananth Sriram, Bhaskarabhatla share the songs along with Varikuppala Yadagiri. Lets see how songs fared.

1. Mira Mira Meesam

Singers: Anurag Kulakarni & Chorus
Lyrics: Ramjogayya Sastry
Rating: 4.5/5

The first song which created a buzz all around social media is simply mind blowing. Anup delivers a fresh intro song for the hero with his own signature. The lyrics provided by RJS are simply motivational and highly inspirational. Always Pavan's film intro songs will have good literary values and huge energy, here also happens the same. It is a feast to here this song. Anurag Kulkarni was at his best, highly energetic and throaty. The chorus was also in perfect sync. Anup has used lot of drums, beats and guitar all over the song, they sound spectacular and trendy. The interlude with solo dum beat was amazing. "Okkade veedu rakarakamula vaadu, kallaku ee rangite aa rangaiy untadu" this sort of lyrics creates buzz in fans, so RJS exactly knows what to be written to create hype among Pavan fans. And this song is good at all aspects, surely Pavan Kalyan has done amazing performance on the screen. His dhoti, his style, his attitude makes everyone go crazy.

2. Laage Laage

Singers: Nakash Aziz
Additional Vocals: Dhanunjay & Nautana
Lyrics: Bhaskar Bhatla
Rating: 4.5/5

Again Anup delivers an amazing song. What a composition, what a tune, what a singing? excellent!! Nakash Aziz(Tauba Tauba song fame) does his job neatly. His voice has some amgic suiting to Pavan Kalyan. He has sung very well. Nautana is limited to two lines crooning at the beginning and at the end, which is also a feast to listen. Dhanunjay provides additional vocals at the second interlude singing the sargam and uttering the word "huh" at the beginning, which suits Pavan's mannerism . The sargum interlude resembles Rahman's Kannanule song, but its just a camparision. This song is also good at all the aspects. Bhaskar Bhatla has given good lyric, the lines" Ee maatram kudure ledu prema turanam, ayipotunna gaallo vimanam", "chetikandochhi chepa mandichhi vayasukemo nerpinave koti kommachhi" sounds stupendous and new.

3. Jivvu Jivvu

Singer: Dhanunjay & Chorus
Lyrics: Varikuppala Yadagiri
Rating: 4/5

An out and out mass song completely aimed at drunkards. Yadagiri's lyric was fine. Wish Pavan Kalyan himself sang the song. But Dhanunjay was also at his best, could be little more throaty. Anup delivered good music, the drum beats all around sounded good and the interlude filled with ickups  was funny and suited to the atmosphere of drunkards.

4. Emo Emo

Singers: Armaan Maalik & Shreya Ghoshal
Lyrics: Anantha Sriram
Rating: 4/5

This is a romantic duet, which is trendy enough. Anup uses a good electronic guitar and violen which sounds romantic. Anantha Sriram's lyric always sounds amazing.Lines like "Mandeti suryunayina chalarche challa gaalyi nuvvochava ee adrushtam naakento?", "Shatruvula gundello nidrunche nakke ninnu chooste niddura paadyi ee gunde gubulento?" sounds tricky and romantic. And is Armaan Maalik required in this song, however he sounds cute and sweet, his accent spoils the flavour of the song, he has too many pronounciation issues. Shreya Ghoshal is the princess behind the screen, what a voice, what an expession? take a bow! but she also has too many pronounciation issues, inspite of singing more than a decade in telugu she cannot pronounce simple words like "Adrushtam", "Megham", "Challa Gaali" , "Vonuku" etc. She is the princess only for her voice, not for her accent.

5. Yello Yadarilo Vaana

Singers: Dhanunjay, Maalavika & Chorus
Lyrics: Anantha Sriram
Rating: 4.5/5

This is a light harted situational melody sung by the brothers in the film. Anup is again good at giving melodies. Dhanunjay's voice was too sweet and cute and he has added lot of expression to the song, it must be shame that we do not use this type of  talented singers in our films, rather music directors prefer singers from other states. We will know what Dhanunjay has done to the song when we hear to the first stanza, the lines "Hoyyare hoyyare", "Sigatho Sinyam nadipinche vaadimeeda siggochi vaalenollammo" proves that Dhanunjay is at his best. Maalavika is limited to some alaaps and surgums, but she was sweet enough. We have to thank anup for using the vocals of our telugu singers in a highly popular commercial films. However its a sweet melody.

6. Neetha Cheera

Singers: Sai Charan, Saahithi, Simha & Chorus
Lyrics: Varikuppala Yaadagiri
Rating: 4.5/5

A song featured in the film on Pavan Kalyan's request. It belongs to a folk genre, which we have forgotten long back. Its too good to listen this type of songs in big films staring Pavan Kalyan & Shruthi Hassan. Anup has showcased all his talent in this song, he used drums, solo violen, flute, some natural sounds like that of a hen etc. Sai Charan was at his best, superb singing. Though he has very few songs in telugu this would be one of his best, same with Saahithi, very good to listen to our own singers in big commercial films. Nayikaa/Nayakaa repeats for every line based on who sings. The stating two three lines are sung by Simha, which is not required. Who else can pen the lyrics for this song except Yadagiri. Overall it leaves the listeners noding thier heads, tapping their feet and enjoying the song.

7. Love Theme

Instrumental
Rating: 4.5/5

A small piece of instrumental which sounds amazing. The flute in between sounds spectacular. The violen coverages, drums, kolatam beats are good to hear. Flute in between is like the same one provided in Gopala Gopala. However its feast to know that Anup has scored an amazing album.

Picks Of The Album: Entire Album

OVERALL RATING: 9.5/10

Remarks: Anup Rubens should establish as a good music director in future, the way he composed, choice of singers, instrumentation etc proves his dedication towards work. All the lyricists were fine. Its treat to listen to Dhanunjay at his best and we find Saahithi, Maalavika who are missing the scene due to the over dominace od other state singers. I don't understand why our music directors prefer other state singers over our own singers, where we our singers do not get proper respect in those states, except some talented singers who can handle any language like Chitra, Shankar Mahadevan, K.J.Yesudas, Karthik can be welcomed as they are national wide recognised singers. Shreya Ghoshal is very near to occupy the place after P.Susheela, Janaki & Chitra in telugu but she cannot deserve that position if she could'nt sing without pronounciation issues. If she is as versatile as Chitra only, she can reach that position or else she cant. However Shreya gets chances in all the new albums in telugu irrespective of her accent and pronounciation.  Where as singers like Sunitha, Shravana etc do not have that versatality what Shreya has.
