RaunaQ- A Coversation of Music and Poetry Audio Review
Album: RaunaQ- A conversation of Music and poetry (2014)
Music: A.R.Rahman
Lyrics: Kapil Sibal
Here comes an album in hindi from a legand A.R.Rahman, it seems to be an album taglined A conversation of music and Poetry speaking about women empowerment.“Raunaq” is a precious piece of work and this is evident in the names that have contributed to this project: Indian politician, Kapil Sibal gives lyricism a go and A.R. Rahman lines up a fine assembly of singers. This team dedicate this album to “Vogue Empower” a social awareness initiative in India that promotes woman empowerment.
1. Ladlii
Singers: Lata Mangeshkar, A.R.Rahman & Chorus
Rating: 4/5
The first song is the title song sung by the "Nightingale Of India"- Lataji. What can anyone expect from A.R.Rahman when Lataji picks up the title song. This song is a lullaby, prayer song, devotional and whatever it comes across in your mind, it leaves different expressions in our mind, that is the power of this song. Even at the age of 85 Lataji sounds sweeter, this proves music is ageless. She is simply amazing, then Rahman adds up Female chorus and tabla beats, then comes an electro guitar hype bringing the vocals of Rahman himself with Lataji for second time after Rang De Basanti(Luka Chuppi).. Simply this song is amazing.
2. Sach Kahoon
Singers: K.S.Chitra & A.R.Rahman
Rating: 4/5
Next song starts at a lower note being flawlessly crooned by the Southern Sensation - K.S.Chitra. Oh my god she simply sounds angelic in this song, then joins Rahman trying a new genere. The song is romantic ghazal type sung excellently by both the vetrens. Rahman keeps the orchestration minimal reminding us that this song is only made for vocals, such is the singing by Chitra as well as Rahman. Whole song sounds same almost with no other ups or downs, it must a best song for listening before going to bed. Ultimately it leaves a plesant experience after the song ends. This song should be heard only for Chitra and Rahman for creating an plesant atmosphere all around(its nothing new for both of them), they have created gems like "Kehna Hi Kya" from bombay, "Jaage hain" from guru and etc.But this song is sure to make you sleep at night.
3. Geet Gaaon
Singer: Jonita Gandhi
Rating: 3.5/5
This song is a meloncholic melody sung effortlessly by Jonita Gandhi. Even in this song the orchestration is kept minimal to elevate the vocals, but the solo veena sounds good at the first interlude. All praises for Jonita for maintaing an apt meloncholic expression all over the song. But she sounds some where dull and quiet energyless which is also a part of this tragetic song. This song sounds soulful for love breakup's. Nothing more to speak about this.
4. Kismat Se
Singer: Shreya Ghoshal
Rating: 4.5/5
This song is only made for Shreya, you will know only when you listen to the song. The way Shreya sings makes you realise why she has overulled all the film industries singers. She is simply amazing, the song starts with an alaap of Shreya, then she brings out honey from her voice, making variations in lower as well upper notes. The tune of the song sounds somehow outdated but Rahman covers it up with his high techno instrumentation, then leaves a classical note by adding tabala to the second interlude. On the whole it would be semi-classical where the winner is Shreya Ghoshal inspite of Rahman's soulful orchestrartion.
5. Kho Jaayein Hum
Singers: Shweta Pandit & Jyot
Rating: 3/5
Here comes the song resembling the tag line "Conversation of music and poetry". Nothing more to speak about this tracks, its only a good tracks consisiting kapil Sibal's meaningful poetry, Rahman's music. Rahman adds up natural sounds like water droplets falling which sounds good. Both the ladies at vocals are fine and good at theier parts.
6. Aabhi Jaa
Singer: Jonita Gandhi
Rating: 4/5
Jonita gets her second song with almost similar tune to the earlier one which she sang. But this song sounds quiet intresting. The solo flute at the beginning and amazing vocals by Jonita make the song quiet good. Then Rahman adds up few beats in the interlude making us glued to the song, then veena and flute together and then joins Jonita with her mesmarizing voice, overall this song is meloncholic in nature but its good to listen and sounds fresh.
7. Khatta Meeta
Singer: Mohit Chauhan
Rating: 4/5
Rahman adds all the youthful extravagency to this song. Rahman's trusted singer Mohit Chuhan (the "Delhi-6" fame) sounds apt. He is too good to be heard. He provides all sorts of expressions for Rahman's youthful tune. then comes the violen interlude and takes us into a higher note with Mohit singing on different scales. Overall it is a short youthful song. It sounds youthful as Rahman adds up all the required incredients like harsh drums, beats and a good violen bit.
