Filmfare Awards South 2017
Filmfare Awards South 2017 Winners In Music (Telugu & Tamil)
Filmfare Awards South is the South Indian segment of the annual Filmfare Awards, presented by The Times Group to honour both artistic and technical excellence of professionals in the South Indian film industry. The awards were introduced in 1954, around the films released in 1953 & Filmfare Awards initially recognizing the Hindi film industries. In 1964 awards were extended to Best Picture in Tamil, Telugu, Bengali and Marathi, around the films released in 1963.The inclusion of Malayalam cinema in the awards came in 1967 while Kannada cinema was recognized in 1970. Each industry is given its own set of creative awards in annual ceremonies that have predominantly been held in Chennai and Hyderabad.
Unlike the National Film Awards, which are decided by a panel appointed by Government of India, the Filmfare Awards South are voted for by both the public and a committee of experts. The Filmfare Awards has been referred to as India's equivalent to the Academy Awards for its ostentatious ceremonies and media coverage, although the National Film Awards is more commonly given this distinction for its critical rigour and pan-Indian appeal.
This is an small attempt to review the Filmfare Winners 2017 in music of Tamil & Telugu languages.
First let us have a look at winners 2017 in music:
Tamil:
The best music director Filmfare South 2017 was given to the legendary mastero of music "A.R.Rahman" for Achcham Yenbadhu Madamaiyada. This was the choice of audience and jury members, they have given the award to the right person.
This is Rahman's 31st Filmfare!! which includes 16 filmfares from south and 15 from north. He is such an amazing person, this shows why he is the most loved music director all over India. He has just over ruled all the regulations and broke all the records and kept nothing void for others to grab any other chance to break any record.
REVIEW OF THE AWARD: This film had 5 songs filled with beautiful romantic melodies and some youthful exuberance. Rahman has completely rocked the stage with all his powerhouse performance. The first song "Showkali" is filled with full of noise and youthful exuberance giving a chance for Simbhu to connect audience with his yo-yo performance. This film even had some excellent melodies like "Avalum Naanum" by Vijay Yesudas, "Raasali" and "Idhu Naal". This 3 songs steal our hearts with Rahmantic melody spilled all over it. The next song " Thalli Poogathey" sung by Sid Sriram was the biggest chartbuster as we all know. This was composed in a very different genre giving chance to the lead pair on the screen to showcase their extremely high performances. So the album had every thing which supported the visuals on the screen.
Rahman is a sure deservant of the award. Congratulations Sir!!...
Rahman was even nominated for other film "24" under the same category, but won the award for this film. The other successful nominees include Haris Jayraj for Iru Mugan, Anirudh for Remo, G.V.Prakash Kumar for Theri & Santhosh Narayan for Kaabali. These nominees also deserverd the award, but it was Rahman who completely stole the audience and Jury members heart.
Telugu:
Its is our very own "Devi Sri Prasad" who won filmfare award telugu south 2017 for best music direction for the film Nannaku Prematho. This award should really be special for DSP as it was very tough to grab a chance to melt audience heart, as the nominees list was really very tough. Each and every one in nomination for this category gave their best for that respective film. There was Rahman at nomination for Saahasam Swasaga Saagipo which was a true gem, next was Mickey J Meyer for A..aa who really rocked the film with his amazing music, next was S.S.Thaman for Sarainodu in which Thaman's music stood as a backbone to the film and the last one was Vivek Sgar for Pellichoopuilu who gave his best and stood as one of the factor for films tremendous success. Among this many successful nominees it is really difficult for the audience or jury to pick one. But we always knew that filmfare will definitely honour the best.
REVIEW OF THE AWARD: DSP composed 6 powerful tunes for this film and each one in the film stood as a precious diamond. His music for this film really worked as a magic. Definitely 50% of the success of film is credited to DSP. It is really difficult for a music director to show different variations from film to film, and here goes this man with nearly 10 films each year with all different and fresh tunes. Here 6 songs stand as a example for his versatility. The tracks "Follow Follow" sung by NTR, "Na manasu neelo", "love dhebba" & "Love me again" are stuffed with energetic guitars, drums etc whic attracted the youth especially & this is the genre in which DSP is at his best. The track "Dont stop" sung by Raghu Dixit was a motivational number and the final emotional piece "Nannaku Prematho" shook whole industry which was filled with DSP's heartfelt emotion. So he was a sure deservent.
So this music of DSP makes him very closer and special to Telugu audience. Every Telugu person out of 10 will love DSP, as he is the most favorite musician in our industry. Love you forever and Congratulations!!....this is DSP's 8th filmfare south(highest by any telugu musician).
Next let us have a look at winners 2017 in best playback singers male:
Tamil:
It is Sundar Iyer who won filmfare tamil 2017 for best playback singer male for the song "love u love u jasminee" for the film Joker. The nominees include Anirudh, Arunraja Kamraja, Jithin Raj and Sid Sriram. Sundar Iyer over ruled all the above singers and grabbed a chance in our hearts and made a special place for himself with this song.
REVIEW OF THE AWARD: Sundar Iyer was a sure deservent for this award. His vocal range was completely different from others and made it very special in this song. The whole song he goes on looping "Love u love u jasminee" which remains as the favorite line in everyone's mind. He has evoked enough emotion which draws the attention of female lead.
So he was a perfect tee to the song and situation. Congratulations for the award!!..
Telugu:
It is Karthik who won filmfare telugu 2017 for best playback singer male for the song "Yellipoke shyamala" for the film "A..aa". Will anyone have atleast a small glance at the nominees list when Karthik is at the board.Because we all knew very well what Karthik's voice has been doing to our hearts. It is melting away the heart of everyone and giving life to the song. This is his 6th filmfare, where he holds a record of winning 3 awards in telugu under the same category. His voice makes him so special.
REVIEW OF THE AWARD: Karthik has been a perfect tee to the song, he evoked the required emotion for a hero who is in deep love and has a break up and he has realised it later and then this song comes out in Karthik's voice which was a life for Mickey's stunning music arrangement and awstruck lyrics written by Ramajogayya Sastry.
Congratulations Karthik!!...& when we have a look at nominees there is Shankar Mahadevan for "Oka lalana" which was a gem of the movie, then it was Vijay Prakash for "Taanu Nenu" who was a highlight of this Rahman's melody, next it was Dhanunjay for "You Are my MLA" and NTR Jr for "Follow Follow" surprisingly.
Next let us have a look at winners 2017 in best playback singers female:
Tamil:
It is our own favorite Shwetha Mohan who won filmfare tamil 2017 for best playback singer female for "Maaye Naadhi" from "Kabaali". Now'a'days Shewtha has become one of the best singer in Tamil after Chitra, Chinmayee and Shreya Ghoshal. So it is no surprise that she has won an award for this excellent song.
REVIEW OF THE AWARD: Here this typical melody of Santhosh Narayan had two singers out of which one was Shwetha & she had a very minimal part to sing in the song. Shwetha just sung two lines in starting and two lines in last for which she won Filmfare 2017. It is no surprise when we listen to the song, her voice in the song was like icing on a cake.
Congratulations Shwetha!!!....This is her 4rth filmfare. Here the nomination list includes all the big names. It was K.S.Chithra who got nominated for her versatile range and melifious singing in "Konji Pesida Venam", next was Chinmayee for "Naan Un" and Mahalxmi Iyer for "Un Mayele Oru" and Neeti Mohan for "Chella Kutti". So this award remains special in Shwetha's career as she completely made audience and jury to forget the nomination list.
Telugu:
It is none other than our very own "K.S.Chitra" who won filmfare telugu 2017 for best playback singer female for the song "Ee Premaki" from the film "Nenu Sailaja".
When Chitraji is in the list of nomination , is it required to check out for anyother singer. She is versatile enough to handle any genre, capable of singing in any language with clear diction and expression. This qualities made her very special and stand as the top singer of India.
REVIEW OF THE AWARD: Chitra has been the backbone of the song composed by DSP and penned by Seetharama Sastry. The song runs nearly for 1:24 minutes, which is clearly enough to prove her effective vocal quality. Her voice has some ethereal quality which really makes her very special. She has evoked apt expression in the song. Anyone who listens to this short bit of song will run into tears due to the emotional rendition by the legend. It is no wonder that she has won some great award like Filmfare for just a short bit of song which dosent even last for 84 seconds, you will know why when you listen to the song. Her range in the song is simply superb.
Congratulations Amma!!...you are the perfect suit to the song. It is her 7th filmafre, where she holds a record of winning maximum number of Filmfares in Telugu under the same category. This award is just another feather in her golden crown. Other nominees are Anjana Soumya and Ramya Behra for "Naidorintikada", next it is Amrutha for "Chinuku taake" , next it is Vishnupriya and Padmalatha for "Pareshanura" and Chinmayee for "Oye Meghamla".
