Spyder is an upcoming 2017 bilingual Indian spy thriller film written and directed by AR Murugadoss. Produced in Telugu and Tamil languages, the film features Mahesh Babu and Rakul Preet Singh in the lead roles.Harris Jayaraj is composing the music while santosh sivan is handling cinematography.Interestingly, this is the first bilingual film for both Mahesh babu and AR Murugadoss.
Production began in 2015, and the film's principal photography commenced in July 2016. It is scheduled for a worldwide release on 27th September 2017.The first look of the film was released on 12 April 2017. Film teaser was released on 1 June 2017.
Mahesh Babu after a huge disaster 'Brahmotsavam', is now coming with Murugudas's Spyder, which is creating a huge buzz at markets. So, lets see what the result would be & how the super star is going to handle this new genre. They choose Rakul as the actress for the film, its a great opportunity for this lucky lady to grab a chance to act with Super star, but she lost a chance to act beside Power Star Pavan Kalyan in his upcoming film, due to busy schedules. This is what happens, when God gives something, he himself takes away the other thing, but she might be happy for acting with Super Star of Telugu cinema. A hero like Mahesh Babu who adopted a village recently, really needs a lot of time & daring to balance both on the same spring balance. We know how hard it is to balance both on a single hand, but here is Mahesh Babu, a man of complete inspiration who is educating people from off-screen & entertaining people on-screen, what else can we expect than this from star-hero's. Hats off
As the film is getting released in 2 languages simultaneously, its better to select the cast who is experienced in doing these bi-lingual films. What is the range of film, audience will decide after the release, now lets look at the songs in the film.
Haris Jayraj has scored music for the film, its better to get Haris Jayraj at the board, as Haris can meet the expectations from Telugu & Tamil audience. This is his fifth straight film in telugu & second film for Mahesh Babu, yestser years he has scored for Vasu, Munna, Gharshana, Sainikudu & Orange which became musical range hits & highly popular in Telugu, so Telugu audience are expecting no less from Haris. Lets see, what he has done to the score of tracks.
Haris composed 5 tracks for the film, and released 2 songs on different dates & today 9/9/17 released the whole album with 3 more songs, where all the songs are penned by Ramjogayya Sastry in Telugu & Madhan Karky in Tamil. The dubbed version of Spyder in Malayalam is also getting ready. So now lets directly jump into the songs.
01. Boom Boom
Singer: Nikitha Gandhi
Rating: 3/5
First song seems like a title song sung effectively by a female lead singer. As the film narrates a story of a modern spy, who is using all the modern equipment as shown in the teaser, so is the music for this song. Haris got it right, but the tune is so hi-fi & modern that it dose'nt suit to a Telugu genre film nor Tamil version. Haris would have choose a effective tune, which would suit to the film & will not work as a background song. This song will be definitely used as a background score in the film, as it has no musical nor lyrical value. However it did'nt work on our ears. Audience surely expected greater than this. Surely if it was A.R.Rahman, he would have done the best to this song, but there is no flaw from Haris side, he just followed his Director's ideology. Next , Ramjogayya Sastry offers nothing new, same words looped again & again, phrases like "S-P-Y vochadoey", "Gudachari veedu", "Boom-boom bam bam bhu kampala shabdame", "rayya rai tayyaray" etc are nothing new for us, they sound the same old which we are hearing since past few years, is it fixed always, that the title song should be written in all praises for the hero even including the infinities & illusions? Probably no!, we can compare this lyric to that of Seetharama Sastry garu's "Sarigama padanisa" song in Jalsa, as this is like version -2 of that song in lyric wise, where it dosen't even resemble 1/100 part of its music also, Haris's music was in his own style. The interludes led by modern spirited guitars, heavy steel drums etc, which on all create an atmosphere for modernized living habitat, may be that's what is asked by the director. Nikitha is as usual rocking!!. But song takes us no where, a routine stuff from Haris.
02. Haali Haali
Singers: Brijesh Tripathi, Harini & Sunitha Jogi
Rating: 3.5/5
Second song is crazy duet between the lead roles. Haris comes up with his own style of music, which is mostly in Tamil styled music. When one hears to the song, will definitely think of the music in Aparichitudu. This song is mostly like a blend of "Randaka Randaka" & "Iyengar" songs. Mostly folk music & beats are heard with a mix of classical instruments. The interludes led by Flute & Tabla are nice to hear. The melody induced in folk beats always sounds good. Coming to the lyric, I dont have any idea what Ramjogayya has written! strange words, strange phrases, whole song went crazy because of his lyric. What is this "puchakya puchakaya, ichukona ichukona, rangu dandyam, chunni, utiki aresi, mudire pichi" etc, the first & second interludes have a mellifluous touch, which is made into comedy in the second stanza because of his words. The phrase "chinna teaseru chusi tabbibbu ayyava ika traileru chupinchanu abba anukova"!! what is this?, song became comical only beacuse of his lyric & no one know's what is "haali haali"!! Maybe it is set for bi-lingual purpose, but it should'nt sound like a dubbed song right?Next coming to vocals, Brijesh an alien in Telugu music, goes fine with few flaws. Harini & Sunitha regular singers in Haris's album, are fine but Harini sings it as "chitti zabili" instead of "jaabili", this happened with all the vocalists. The accent is clearly audible, they are pronouncing "putsaka, itsukona" etc. Overall a song best at its music, with too many flaws.
04. Ciciliya Ciciliya
Singers: Haricharan & Shakthi Shree
Rating: 4.5/5
Third song is quiet good melody from Haris's side. Now'a'days all the films are concentrating on these modern light hearted melodies, where Haris has picked up a tune of that genre and made it with his own style, the interludes are solid proof for the above statement. Whole song had a chorus chanting different words with a tamil flavor, only Haris jayraj can do this type of things. Haricharn is back with a bang, after a song in Ninnu kori where he spoiled the song, is now careful with the lyric and vocals and made this song a blockbuster with his mellifluous singing. Shakthi Shree was also fine, with minute pronouncing problems. The recorder-flute kind of sound accompanying the vocals was too good. Coming to lyrics "Ciciliya" is a baby's name in Roman culture, the phrase "hey pilla achacha" is it written with the Malayalam meaning achacha- brother, or rhythmically, but it went out well. This song is a saving grace.
05. Acham Telugandam
Singers: Pravin Saivi, Christoper Stanley & Sathyaprakash
Rating: 3.5/5
One more routine melody from Haris. This song has nothing new, except the interlude with those classical notes. Song says "Acham Telugu andam" but nothing sounds Telugu, except those interludes led by tabla & violen. Ramjogayya is back with beautiful melody, weaving magic with his words. Vocalists were fine, but no one sounded Telugu. Noting to say about this short song which lasts upto 3 minutes hardly.
06. Spyder On Mission
Instrumental
Rating: 4/5
This piece of music is what we hear in the teaser I guess. Nothing to speak more, works on the screen, if exciting visuals are created.
06. Akkada Unnavadu (Bonus Track_ Released Later)
Singers: Geetha Madhuri & Chorus
Rating: 4/5
This is the last song released after whole jukebox got released. This is an out & out mass song, I mean it is literally a "Teenmaar" song, generally these type of songs lose importance for music & are stuffed with only heavy beats, but Haris used his signature all over to remind us that this is his song. Coming to vocals, if 7-8 mass songs got released this year atleast, then I'am sure to say that Geetha has song 6 out of them, now-a-days she has become an icon for mass songs, if a song named "pakka local" gets a huge hit & a award it does'nt mean that she nails all the mass songs, truly speaking Geetha cant fit to the tee of mass songs, she sounds squeaky & crappy in open voice. But inspite of these many complaints she proved herself by singing this song. This song is only for Geetha, she simply nailed it, if you listen to that you'll understand why. She sounds more like Janaki garu in these mass songs, I mean her expressions & energy. At last coming to lyrics, it is very hard to digest the tune itself then comes Ramjoggayya with all those crappy space-filling lyrics which make no sense at all. We will never expect this work from Sastry garu. If it appeals only for Geetha's singing.
