This album "Piya Basanti" was released 17 years ago i.e. 28 November 2000. We all knew its success rate & the effect it created  on youth that time. It was runway-successful and went on to win the international accolade "2001 MTV Video Music Award- Hindi Pop Genre" for the vocalists USK & Chitra. Chitra became immensely popular after these songs & she is called "Piya Basanti" in Mumbai. The song "Piya Basanti" became viral in youtube, that it has reached 9,647,929 views & 38,954 likes.Every music lover is in debted to this cult classic created by 3 geniuses of music- the Sarangi Talent Ustad Sahab, Nightingale Of India Chitraji & Sandesh (composer).

Coming to vocalists, Ustad Sahab- guru of Sandesh Shandliya sang all the songs in the album. He is a great Sarangi player & classical Ghazal singer who recorded innumerous ghazals in Ustad & Divas, Piya Basanti , Piya Basanti Again etc. Next about Chitra she dose'nt need any intro she herself is a great singer , Indian renowned singer. This album Piya Basanti, which was certified GOLD for its classical compositions shook the beginnings of 2000's. Later we wanted to hear to them again, so they gave us Piya Basanti Again in 2012, this was the first album which got released after Ustad Sahab's death in 2011.

Here in Piya Basanti Again 2012 all the songs are in Punjabi accent & genre, same alike in Piya basanti. 2000. Who could forget that Piya Basanti, Chale Re, Shyam dhale, Rangeelo Rut, Surmayien Ankhon etc songs, they were cult classics. Did Sandeep reproduce the same classical flavor in Piya Basanti Again? Lets see what he has done to this?

Note: "I'am reviewing the album which got released in 2012 Piya Basanti Again, now in 2017, because classics will'nt be forgotten & as a serious music lover its my duty to remember all those amazing compositions & I think music has no language nor time period, usually many music reviews concentrate on upcoming films, where as I'll always review from both sides, the upcoming & the past left films."

01. Piya Basanti Again

Singers: Ustad Sultan Khan & K.S.Chitra
Rating: 5/5

Who can forget this song? It never gets old, even after 17 years it is fresh & when we listen to this reprise it is like same freshness recreated with youthful exuberance. Every time you listen to this the same song, same evergreen vocals, same freshness, same feel. Everything is intact, nothing has changed from that Piya Basanti to this Piya Basanti Again. Sandesh has composed an amazing track, the song has rich background score, classical instruments etc People who missed the earlier version are lucky to hear to this. There are couple of beats which loop after every phrase accompanying the exceptional vocals. Next the flute in earlier version, became recorder in this version & the Tabla has become thumba, Sarangi became guitar & Veena has become Keyboard. Though all the instruments got replaced the feel was intact. Next upto poetic lyrics, Akhilesh has done a spell bounding job. Then upto vocals, Ustad Sahab with his dark & thick voice reaches the high pitches with ease making it comfortable for ears. Then the cute nightingale, always croons the song with her mellifluous voice, like honey flowing in ears, that would be the feel when Chitraji sings. Bollywood is lucky to hear to her yet now, though from few years she is missing the screen in Bollywood, she is yet to get her due in Bollywood. An amazing song, which always remains in the hearts of music lovers.

02. Sehra Sehra

Singers: Ustad Sultan Khan & K.S.Chitra
Rating: 5/5

The song opens with Sarangi playing along with classical notes sung by Ustad Sahab, few water drops & then comes the same youthful beats with a boom & Ustad Sahab starts singing "Sehra Sehra" then joins Chitraji with her ethereal rendition of song. Then the song continues until we reach a state of 7-heavens(jannat) . I have nothing to speak about this masterpiece, thats why described the song. Sandesh effectively used Sarangi to please our ears and stole our heart. Akhileshji has done a fantastic job once again.

03. Dil Ka Tu

Singers: Ustad Sultan Khan & K.S.Chitra
Rating: 4/5

This song is again a romantic ballad kind thing with ghazal interludes & lyrics. Same beats find their presence again in this song.  This song is kept very simple with youthful lilt & cherubicness. Chitra perfectly fits to the tee & rocks the song. Chitra sounds nothing like any southern singer, but she sounds exactly like some present bollywood singer, that is the reason for her varied heritage in Indian musical industry, irrespective of her birth place etc she is the best & most underrated singer in India, who could handle any genre, any pitch, any language, any song with quick ease. Even after 37 years of her entry we are unable to find a singer who could replace her, that is her uniqueness. Next Ustad Sahab is'nt that comfortable like Chitraji in this genre, he sounded little odd with this youthful tune etc. Coming to composition, Sandesh uses some signature all way through the song & here we hear to strange couplet thumba beat which rocks the song, but however lies on a boring side. Lyrics by Akhileshji are fine.

04. Gori Tune

Singers: Ustad Sultan Khan & K.S.Chitra
Rating: 5/5

This is a melancholic romantic duet which narrates the pain & happiness in love. The lyric is the highlight of the song. as usual Sandesh had his signature tune all around, the painful Sarangi, youthful thumba & classical tabla. Song opens with an amazing laugh of Chitraji, which sounds too good.  Next follows the song with its own pace & we hear to the classical Sargums sung in race between Ustad Sahab & Chitra. The flute sounded good & the second interlude effectively led by Sarangi is highlight of the song. Song is good at all three aspects.

05. Kab Avoge

Singers: Ustad Sultan Khan & K.S.Chitra
Rating: 5/5

This song is a melancholic one. Music lovers would be amazed to listen to this, it has a good classical composition. The dark Mridangam or Tabla accompanies the tune & vocals, inspite of different instruments being played, this different harmony sounded good. All credits to Sandesh Shandliya. Akhilesh evokes the pain in love with his poetic lyrics suiting to the Ghazal form. Ustad Sahab is at his best & rocks the song with his high-pitched classical rendition. His expression which evokes sadness is a must to be mentioned. Next upto Chitraji, see the range that she posses while singing  the phrases "Saajan Avan Kehagaya" . Oh my god!! how can someone posses that high octave range? Take a bow for Chitraji & Ustadji. Loved this song, especially for its cult classism & marvelous rendition by both vocalists.

06. Chand Hain

Singers: Utad Sultan Khan & K.S.Chitra
Rating: 5/5

A cool romantic ghazal narrating beautiful scenario of romance.  Nothing more to speak about this song, whenever a romantic song is to be written always Chand gets its reference. I don't know who has crooned the opening huming, but sounded angelic. May be Sandesh & Chitra. Tune is nothing so great, but kept simple & neat giving way for the vocalists to showcase their talents. Ustad sahab's singing is exceptional, lovely & beautiful. See the amount of expression that Chitraji puts on to the lovely poetic lyrics, she simply sounded angelic, that ethereal voice is enough to take us into trans, but when she adds that additional expressions, we are sure to go for a ride in heaven. We have to learn & respect this legends for elevating a simple song into a great song. The phrases " Kaha hum chupenge hein jugunu yahaan chanda aur sitaro ka nazrein yahaan..then laughs Chitra" is a solid proof for Akhilesh's literary skills & Chitra's amazing caliber. A simple song elevated to next level because of wonderful vocalists, this is hence a great song.

07. Tore Naina

Singers: Ustad Sultan Khan
rating: 4/5

Again a melancholic intense solo by Ustad Sahab with classical notes. Nothing to speak about the song, a classical mozart which again lies on boring side. Sandesh has got no credits, but Ustad Sahab the legend who took this song to a great level with his painful voice gets the full credit. The sorrowful sound by keyboard & sarangi dominates the song. Ustad Sahab gets a chance to prove his classical talent & he utilizes it to a full extent. A song made only for him,  a song elevated only due to his voice. Coming to lyrics, the Punjabi phrases "Tore Naina" sounded good.

Picks Of The Album: Entire Album

OVERALL RATING: 9.5/10

Remarks: This album can also be certified "GOLD" for its cult classism which is maintained all over the album. Sandesh Shandliya who created amazing works, gets his own credit for this spell bounding work. Akhilesh gets his credit for maintaining good literary values. Next upto vocalists- USK & Chitra, this album is only made for them, they simply do complete justice to the songs. I sincerely feel that we are missing this type of music & singers like Chitraji in Bollywood. however I'am bored of saying these words, but hope that Chitraji gets her due in bollywood, though she has proved herself by winning 6 national awards in 3 different Indian languages, which is highest among female singers & 175 other awards which sum up to her great caliber. The padmabhushan late USK is no less then a legend. Great singers, great album, great works like this will always be remembered and cherished by music lovers.
