Thaanaa Serndha Koottam (English: A gang formed by itself), is a 2018Tamil-language heist film written and directed by Vignesh Shivan and produced by K. E. Gnanavel Raja. The film is an adaptation of the 2013 Hindi film Special 26, which was inspired by the 1987 Opera House heistin Mumbai. The film stars Suriya and Keerthy Suresh in the lead roles, with a supporting cast including KarthikRamya KrishnanSenthiland Suresh Chandra Menon. Featuring music composed by Anirudh Ravichander and cinematography by Dinesh Krishnan, the film had a worldwide theatrical release on 12 January 2018.

We know what the film is doing in markets, so lets directly talk about the music. Anirudh has been roped for scoring music of the film. Anirudh is on roll now'a'days, he has recently scored a telugu blockbuster musical debut 'Agnyaathavaasi' for which he has received positive reviews, now TSK. Even Keerthy is on roll with three releases for the festive season.

The soundtrack and background score of the film were composed by Anirudh Ravichander, collaborating for the first time with Suriya, with lyrics for songs written by ThamaraiVignesh Shivan and Mani Amudhavan. The team released four single tracks, before the album was unveiled on 3 January 2018. The promotional song for "Sodakku" included members of the film's cast as well as Sheril, who rose to fame with her dance cover of the song "Entammede Jimikki Kammal" from Velipadinte Pusthakam(2017).

The song "Sodakku" attracted controversy after an AIADMK office bearer, Sathish Kumar, lodged a complaint with the Commissioner of Police seeking changes in the lyrics, which he claimed were offensive and anti-political. Kumar's claims were widely criticised by those in the film industry, with RJ Balaji speaking out against the complaint.

This movie even got released in Telugu, so lets compare which songs sounded best.

01. Naana Thaana

Singers: Anirudh Ravichander & Chorus
Lyrics: Vignesh Shivan
Rating: 5/5

This is a beautiful fun-romantic number which sets our mood to some what 80's. We know very well that TSK is set in a back drop of 80's & Anirudh nailed it perfectly. The Tabla beats, Harmonium sound, Veena and everything are perfect. This song cannot be any better, hits anyone instantly. This song is like a rehash of Ilayaraja's old melodies, but however sounds very fresh. And the lyrics which are the best part of the song, they are kept very simple & neat. So a commendable job done by our director Vignesh!! Next upto vocals Anirudh is superb as usual, his expressions elevate the song. The sound of cough in between sounded amazing whenever it came. Anirudh is the true winner. He simple nailed everything. Anirudh's singing made me remember SPB, who used to rock songs like this.
Next even Telugu version 'Naalo Nenu' sounds good, if u have to listen to that listen it for the sake of Revanth.

02. Sodakku

Singers:  Anthony Dassan
Lyrics: Mani Amudhavan & Vignesh Shivan
Rating: 5/5

This is an out and out mass song, completely aimed at masses but is enjoyable by family audience even, thats Anirudh's speciality. Indha idam, inga irukka azhukku, indha azhukka uruvakki intha akukkulaye oori pona, idho ivanunga maari aalunga, ivanungalellam paathale, veratti vetatti velukka thonuthu, says Suriya in between and this sums upto the concept of the film they say. The beats of song were foot tapping, kept neat. Here again Anirudh does a commendable job. Next the lyrics are fine. The vocals by Anthony add flavor to the song. He is like a 440 volt transformer. He is highly energetic and goes breathless in the song. Every part of the song rocked. In Telugu song it is Rahul Sipligunj, he sounded more energetic than Anthony, but no offence. My vote goes to Telugu version, for the sake of singer. And at last, did I enjoy the song, 'surely Yes!!'. But in the whole song there is no sodakku sound.

03. Peela Peela

Singers: Jassie Gift, Nakash Aziz & Malli
Lyrics: Vignesh Shivan
Rating: 5/5

This is one more fun filled romantic number crooned effectively by the singers, all the singers did a fair job. Anirudh like Rahman always finds a place for placing himself, like how sugar finds its place in a cup full filled of milk. Hear to the interlude led by flute, you'll understand why I have quoted him like that. This young talent always enthralls his audience with his spell bounding music.Next again Vignesh goes safe with his peppy lyrics. Overall a quite enjoyable song, which stays for long.

04. TSK Theme

Singers: Anirudh Ravichander & Vignesh Shivan
Lyrics: Vignesh Shivan
Rating: 4/5

This is the theme song, which is perfect in all aspects & need not be any better, but somehow lacks freshness. I have nothing to speak about this number, might highlight the action sequences.

05. Engae Endhru Povathu

Singers: Anirudh Ravichander & Shaktishree Gopalan
Lyrics: Thamarai
Rating: 5/5

An emotional number. This song has all those elements which make it apt to the situation. This song even has an interlude which is led by the theme music of our "National Anthem". Everything went in hand in hand, the beautiful pleasing music- motivating vocals- thought provoking lyrics. So the song is perfect in all aspects. I need'nt speak about the singers & lyricist they did their job very well, but the highlight is chord striking music, the marching beats as background will never fail to elevate these type of situations. The techno crat Anirudh has screwed everything right. Loved this stuff!!

Picks Of The Album: Entire Album

OVERALL RATING: 9.8/10

Remarks: The latest musical sensation Anirudh is on roll as I already told & he is proving himself with every successful album he is working with. Let him grow up like this, let him all the chances & let him rock it on.

We know what the film is upto, but I reviewed this album, out of my interest, though it got released days aback.
