TholiPrema is an upcoming 2018 Telugu Romantic comedy film. It is set to be directed by debutant Venky Atluri and is being produced by B. V. S. N. Prasad under his banner Sri Venkateswara Cine Chitra. It will feature Varun Tej and Raashi Khanna in the lead roles. S. Thaman is the Music Director . The film is scheduled to be released on February 9th 2018.

Varun Tej is on roll after the blockbuster 'Fidaa' & has set up expectations for this film. The title of this film is inspired from his uncle 'Powerstar' Pavan Kalyan's one of the career best works-'THOLIPREMA'. So lets see what this film would do, whether it might carry the legacy of Karunakaran's touching & motivating storyline. Tholiprema is still a all time favorite movie for many 90's kids, I'am one among them, that Powerstar's movie has a some melancholic love theme written all over the movie with beautiful romantic vintage & youthful vintage. Who could forget the impact that it created on youth of those days? Will this film carry the same thing, is question to wait and see. And if music is concerned, 'The Father Of Gaanaa Genre'  Deva has composed music for that old film, which was a musical sensation at that time. Songs 'Ee Manassee', 'Yemaindo Yemo', 'Gaganaaniki Udayam' sung by legend SPB garu remain still as cult classics & one of the best music albums of PK garu.

Coming to the film's music, S.S.Thaman has been roped to score the music for this film. Now'a'day's Thamman has changed his track & is showcasing a new version of him, so lets see whether he is successful in dealing with this score. After two successful albums like 'Mahanubhavudu' & 'Jawaan', he is now back with this & will compose for 'Bhagmatee' even. He has composed 6 tunes with a solo card lyricist Srimani, its a great opportunity to Srimani to be roped as a solo card lyricist. So why late? lets see whether Thamman made us recollect those classics of Deva or whether he made his new refreshing signature all over.

01. Ninnila

Singers: Armaan Malik & S.S.Thaman
Rating: 4.5/5

This is a cute romantic solo with Thaman's signature written all over it. This intense solo narrates the desire that a lover boy has on his girl. Srimani made it very clean & neat, his phrases were perfect, he did complete justice. The phrases 'tholi tholi premee daachekala chiru chiru navve appakila chali chali gaale vichentala', 'ninnu nee nunchi nuvvu bayataku raanivvu mabbu teralu tenchukunna jablimmala' sounded extra ordinary. Total praises for Srimani. Next the instrumentation is amazing, Thaman simply rocked it. The interlude led by percussion instruments is a total bliss!! Next upto vocals, this is a bad choice, Armaan is cute, sweet & cool, but thats not the thing required for this song, he must be more expressive, rather he made it dull. Sionging of Thaman did'nt gel with the tune. The way 'Kallalo dachane' is said is totally wrong, when Telugu words are'nt said properly, they lose the nativity & takes away the listener's interest, however now'a'days these are quite very common. But at last everything can be overlooked for neat instrumentation & good lyrics, overall a well made song, very refreshing!!

02. Break The Rules

Singers: Raghu Dixit & Chorus
Rating: 4/5

This is a routine song with those hi-fi lyrics and instrumentation, I mean this is like a yo-yo kind of song. I have nothing to speak about this, this is a routine song which is found in all most every music album, but that feeling is lost when that chorus starts. The chorale group is extra ordinary sounded angelic, all praises for Thaman for making the traditional chorus part gel very well with this fast beat song. Instrumentation is too good, the veena, drums, guitars everything hit the right chord at right moment, making it perfect. Coming to lyrics, Srimani is ok. Vocals, Raghu too did a commendable job, but would have been little more energetic, rather we heard stress in his voice. At last did I like the song, Yes!!

03. Sunnona Sunaina

Singers: Rahul Nambhiyar & Chorus
Rating: 4/5

A song with peppy instrumentation & techno vocals. The instrumentation here too rocks perfectly, the crazy prelude is sure to make you nod your head & tap your feet. The saxophone in between is a pleasant surprise, the keyboard kind of thing looping all around with couple of beats taking all over also sounded very well. Chorus too sounded good. Rahul is again the same, I need'nt say about him , he is rocking as usual. Srimani plays safe with his routine phrases. Thaman rocked the orchestra. Inspite of this many favorable points, the song still lies on the boring side, may be because the tune is not refreshing. But no problem, the song is still enjoyable, its like a quick musical rolar coaster.

04. Allasani Vaari

Singers: Shreya Ghoshal
Rating: 5/5

This is a romantic female solo filled with youthful exuberance. The song is again great in 3 terms, like the all the above ones i.e. instrumentation, vocals & lyrics. The lyrics especially sounded too good, Srimani made it quite interesting by inducing the names of Allasani, thyagaraju etc. This lyric is like a rehash of old Keervani's song 'Rajkapoor Cinemaloni' & 'Nandhuri Geyama' from Bombay Priyudu, just a co-incidence. But the lyric is very good. Next it is a Thaman's show now, he is simply rocking with every song, which is very fresh. This changeover is so good. The peppy instrumentation with mixing of flute & veena made it sound amazing, you simply rocked Thaman. Next upto vocals, this versatile Shreya Ghoshal never fails to enthrall us with her soothing vocals, she is angelic as usual, but at the same time she proved her prowess once again, look at the amount of expression & diction when she sings that rap, OMG!! only she can show that kind of variation, she is very talented & she sang with extreme ease showing a neat difference between the mellifluous singing & that englized style of singing. As I every time tell she is the princess behind the screen. Overall the best one from the album so far.

05. Vinnane Vinnane

Singers: Armaan Malik & Devan Ekambaram
Rating: 4/5

One more youthful melody in Thaman's style. I have nothing to speak, the instrumentation is once again perfect, refreshing. Lyrics are fine. Vocals are fine. Armaan gets his second surprisingly, this one is quite good. He got a ample support from Devan & Chorus. The song is same but is not routine, it is quite refreshing, it would work when caught with right visuals. Thaman is  sounding more like Mickey, who does these type of things.

06. Tholiprema

Singers: Kaala Bhairava
Rating: 5/5

One more best in the album, this is so far called the title song, sounds great. Kaala Bhairava, made it neat & he has done a complete justice to the song, we can find that anguish in his voice, this highlights the melancholic theme which is evident in the old Tholiprema. We can connect this to the genre of 'Gaganaaniki' song, only the genre, otherwise everything is made by Thaman with his extreme professionality. The preludes, interludes and everything went in hand in hand reaching a great output. The melancholic veena is too pleasing. However the tune made me remember, the title song in recent film 'Malli Raava', the tune is mostly like that. Thaman is a music director who seems to work by getting influenced by others, its not wrong inspiration can be from any where, untill you plagiarise, & I will never dare to say its a copy, because he made it of his own with a little inspiration, which is always ok. Before concluding, Srimani did a great job with his lyrics, everything sounded good, if he writes at this pace he will surely top at all the films. At last the best one in the album.

Picks Of The Album: Allasani Vaari & Tholiprema-Title song

OVERALL RATING: 8/10

Remarks: Changeover from Thaman's side is really working out, he is receiving many postive reviews for his works, may him continue like this with en-numerous chances in forthcoming years. This album is a treat, may be it wouls'nt replace that old Tholiprema's songs, but I can surely say it is one of the best works from Thaman & one of the best works in recent times. Lyricist Srimani, is on roll after 'Agnyaathavaasi', Srimani really rose his standards, he has done his best for AG and Jai Simha and now it is Tholiprema, if he writes at this pace, he will sustain for long & will become a tough competition for the present lyricists like RJS,Chandrabose, Anantha Sriram who almost faded away by now. Fine this changeover is refreshing. Vocals by Shreya,  Kaala Bhairava, Armaan & Rahul stood out. At last, we should wait for the film to release to check its success, hope it gets all the success, ATB Tholiprema team!!
