June 5- WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY

WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY

World Environment Day (WED) occurs on the 5th of June every year, and is the United Nation's principal vehicle for encouraging awareness and action for the protection of our environment. First held in 1974, it has been a flagship campaign for raising awareness on emerging environmental issues from marine pollution, human overpopulation, and global warming, to sustainable consumption and wildlife crime. WED has grown to become a global platform for public outreach, with participation from over 143 countries annually. Each year, WED has a new theme that major corporations, NGOs, communities, governments and celebrities worldwide adopt to advocate environmental causes.
World Environment Day [WED] was established by the UN General Assembly in 1972 on the first day of the Stockholm Conference on the Human Environment, resulting from discussions on the integration of human interactions and the environment. Two years later, in 1974 the first WED was held with the theme "Only One Earth". Even though WED celebration have been held annually since 1974, in 1987 the idea for rotating the center of these activities through selecting different host countries began.

WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY 2018:  Every year we celebrate this day with a special theme and slogan, relating to the pressing environmental concern at that time. 2018 has adopted to " BEAT PLASTIC POLLUTION "  and its a call to individuals to take  care about their surroundings and realize the severity of using plastic in daily life.

Preface: Every occasion becomes wonderful with music, so this time i decided to bring out some evergreen melodies of Indian industry, which sang in praise of nature and celebrated its glory. I did'nt want to confine it to a language, but just brought in some good songs in 3 languages-Telugu, Tamil and Hindi. I did'nt group the songs on any basis, but just brought some songs which were etched in my heart. So lets review those beautiful songs. I added few notes and tips about nature and saving nature after every song's review mentioned as 'theme highlighted'.

01. Pranaamam

Movie: Janatha Garage (2017)
Music Director: Devi Sri Prasad
Singer: Shankar Mahadevan
Lyricist: Ramjogayya Sastry
Language: Telugu

This thought provoking intro song in Janatha Garage has a strong message towards the nature. In this movie the hero, is an environmentalist and this song suits to the tee of the subject. RJS weaves the glory of nature in words. He starts the first note of the song, with a vote of thanks to the nature, which is irreplaceable and whose need is in infinity to the mankind. He goes on writes about the glory of nature and the best part is when he says that "all our emotions, words, thoughts and actions are symmetrical to the mother nature's character and we are just small pawns in this nature and when we learn to  motivate ourselves with a huge horse powered inspiration from nature and just move on, that becomes the meaning of a wealthy life".  Shankar Mahadevan perfectly brings in the magic of nature with the fusion of  bliss created by DSP's tune.
Theme Highlighted:  This song is a perfect tribute to the mother 'Nature'.

02. Pulveli Pulveli

Movie: Aasai (1995)
Music Director: Deva
Singers: K.S.Chitra , P.Unnikrishnan & Chorus
Lyricist: Vairamuthu
Language: Tamil

This is one more haunting melody which is again a perfect tribute to the nature. This song of 1995's Aasai takes us to seventh heaven where angel's dance in merry. Deva sir has created one of the most melodious tune which takes any one into an ethereal state. Vairamuthu Sir, describes all those beautiful parts of nature like rivers, forests, the flora and the fauna. We need not look at the visual, Vairamuthu has written everything so well that leaves the listener in a blissful experience. Coming to the magic hidden in this song, it is none other than Chitra maa's voice, the tune is heavenly, the lyrics are realistic but Chitra's expression elevates the song to a different level. There are two ways of singing a song, one is the singer must feel the song and sing it then the second one is singing in such a way that listeners feel the song, Chitra stands always in the second category. To this legendary show, mellifluous Unnikrishnan's humming does 100% justice, like that of nature to mankind.

Theme Highlighted: This song is something narrating the treasure of the nature, which has to be handled with care, they are not resourceful till the end, they get extinct by some day, the day is no where far at this pace of polluting world. So when ever we listen to this song , we must remember that earth is a place for all and we must safeguard it with eminent policies , so it becomes useful for the toughest generations ahead.

03. Pachani Chilukalu

Movie: Bharateeyudu (1997)
Music Director: A.R.Rahman
Singers: K.J.Yesudas & Chorus
Lyricist: Bhuvanachandra
language: Telugu

This is one more amazing song made in the history of Indian music industry, whether its Rahman's music or Shankar's direction or Kamal sir's acting or Dassettan's singing, which makes us laugh in merry forgetting all the sorrows for few minutes till the song ends. This song concentrates more on bringing in philosophy of life rather than the nature, its such a lovely song by Bhuvanachandra, he tells us that "nature itself is the greatest wealth, so why do we need some other wealth which gives temporary pleasure, nature is the teacher, nature is the mother and nature is everything" whole song sums up to the above meaning. Though this song is initially made in Tamil, this is my personal favorite.
Theme Highlighted: Coming to the magic, here it is Yesudasji's heavenly voice which is even more sweeter than honey, even more soft than flowers petal, even more mellifluous than music. He steals our heart with a perfect rendition. This song sounds like, Rahman has made it only for Dassettan and no one else could even afford to sing.

04. Cham Cham Cham

Movie: Baaghi (2016)
Music Director: Meet Bros
Singer: Monali Thakur & Meet Bros
Lyricist: Kumar
Language: Hindi

One of the greatest creation of nature is 'Rain', and Indian cinema has utilised enough of its beauty. Rain sounds or songs make the scenes in movie more romantic and this song stands in first in such sequence. Movie is a remake of old telugu film, 'Varsham' but not the song, it has its own cherubicness and energy. Its so connected to the youth, with Monali and Meet bros'  youthful renditions. There is nothing to speak about this song, its all about listening to the Mallu styled instrumentation, Shradda's graceful steps and beautiful visualization that's it.

Theme Highlighted: As this song deals with showers, i.e water , so we have to identify the  theme of 'Saving water' and using it efficiently.

05. Aakasam Eenaatido

Movie: Nireekshana (1982)
Music Direction: Ilaiyaraaja
Singer: S. Janaki
Lyricist: 'Acharya' Aatreya
Language: Telugu

This evergreen classic of Ilaiyaraaja remains as the most favorite song, for any music lover. This song has very rich musical composition which can make listeners screw their ear and loop on this melody for infinity times. The flute in b/w second interlude is like water drop falling from great height. This song is a cult classic. Janaki amma has a record of holding very unique voice in Indian film industry, but in this song she sounds melodious as never as before, amazing as never as before. This song is one of the  career best song of Janaki amma. Her voice has the power!! whole power to put this universe into heaven, and she uses that complete ethereal quality in this song. While listening to this masterpiece, especially that last part "Lalala" I always wonder how did she complete that in one breath?!! Coming to the lyric, 'Acharya' Aatreya, one of the greatest writers in Telugu, puts the philosophy of life into nature and gives a boosting for Isayagnyani's brilliant composition. This song is like going around those trees and rivers in ooty. We need'nt look at the visual, his words give the idea of the scenario in the movie.

Theme Highlighted: The lyricist writes "Its already decided by the almighty that which cloud is going shower rain drop on the toiled field  and that rain drop germinates as a new bud!! Its already decided by the almighty which flower should carry the fragrance of nature" , with this lines he just proves how nature and man kind are co-related. A song with deep and intense meaning.

06. Chinni Chinni Aasai

Movie: Roja (1992)
Music Director: A.R.Rahman
Singer: Minmini & A.R.Rahman
Lyricist: Vairamuthu
Language: Tamil

This is song is one more masterpiece & there might be no music lover who could hate this song. Roja has been a witness of Rahman's amazing talent and sheer magic. This song has all the phrases which sing the glory of nature. Vairamuthu sir, initially wrote 120 desires and then cut short the list to 16 for the song!! Strange is'nt it? Vairamuthu sir has been the voice of nature in this song, who writes all the phrases in the song in a strong connection with nature, that reveals the bond b/w nature and man kind. That intensity in poetic lyric is neatly carried by Minmini and Rahman.
Theme Highlighted: From this song, we have to learn to safe guard our amazing resources given by our mother nature and try not to pollute it.

07. Saathiya

Movie: Saathiya (2002)
Music Director: A.R.Rahman
Singer: Sonu Nigam, Benny Dayal , Dominique Cerejo & Clinton Cerejo
Lyricist: Gulzar
Language: Hindi

This song is something which is very close to my heart, it is no where related to nature, song is in deep love with the heroin. But those beautiful locations in which this song is shot, makes the viewer question is our earth so beautiful? This melodious work from Rahman and Sonu Nigam takes us to a different trans. Sonu Nigam sounds so sweet as never as before. His voice is like the lite morning sun rays falling on snow caped mts. That flute and instrumentation by Rahman is like water flowing keenly in a cold lake. Gulzar's lyrics are all left for the heroin. This romantic melody, has nothing to say, just to watch romantic vintage b/w Vivek & Rani wrapped in beauty of nature.
Theme Highlighted: This song tells that one of the color of nature is 'LOVE'.

08. Uppongele Godavari

Movie: Godavari (2006)
Music Director: K.M.Radhakrishnan
Singer: S.P.Balasubrahmanyam & Chorus
Lyricist: Veturi
Language: Telugu

One of the nature's best creation in Telugu states is 'Godavari', its such a peasant beauty on which whole Telugu people embrace. Inspite of these many songs and movies on 'Godavari', it always sounds fresh and never gives any boredom. We are in a country where rivers are considered sacred and holy, like the river 'Ganges', Godavari is one more, and when ever its name is heard whole nation of Telugu states rise their heads in immense pride. Such is the bond b/w Godavari and Telugu people. We have to thank nature, for such wonderful creations & who else could pen this song like Veturi garu, he has written in such a manner, that no one in this world would have hurled praises on Godavari like him. Even the river itself blushes listening to his poetry. And who could have sung this song like SPB? probably no one. This song is a cult classic. SPB becomes the voice of 'Godavari' telling its own tale.

Theme Highlighted: Nature has created many amazing things and one finest among that creations is river 'Godavari', and this song is like a tale of it. From this, we could draw the theme of 'saving the rivers' and not polluting it.

09. Tu Chale

Movie: I (2015)
Music Direction: A.R.Rahman
Singers: Arijith Singh & Shreya Ghoshal
Lyricist: Irshad Kamil
Language: Hindi

This Tamil initiated song "Pookkalae Sattru Oyivedungal" is a big chartbuster, but this song is my personal favorite. Even this song has no connection with nature, but the visuals promise a tribute to nature and feast for the eyes and this song is a treat for ears. Shankar has worked very hard to justify this amazing melody of Rahman and he did it. The visualization is really a treat for eyes and if you have'nt watched yet pl do. That instrumentation by Rahman is spell bounding, especially that sounds of water droplets.Singing by Arijith and Shreya add the required amount expression.
Theme Highlighted: This song tells that one of the color of nature is 'LOVE'.

10. Nuvvostante Nenoddantana

Movie: Varsham (2004)
Music Director: Devi Sri Prasad
Singers: K.S.Chitra, Raqueeb, Kalpana & Chorus
Lyricist: Sirivennala Seetharama Sastry
Language: Telugu

As I already told that there is a strong bond b/w rain and Indian cinema, this is one more song into that feathered cock. This is the song which they remade in 'Baaghi' as Cham cham. This song was a sensation at that time and won many accolades for the music and vocals. DSP never misses any opportunity to prove that he can shift b/w any genre very easily and this song is one more career best for DSP. This song has all that energy and enthusiasm which is perfectly rendered in the voice of Chitra. She renders with lot of energy, lilt and cherubic ting. Her singing really brings the rain down from the sky. Sirivennala always tries to write those different phrases & here too he uses all those phrases, he showcases the heights of literary skills in this song, he is speaking to the rain "if you are coming down from the sky, then you have to promise me that you'r going to be a bangle to my hand and a pearl bracelet to my anklet and a gold chain to my neck, then will I stop you from coming to earth?!"
Theme Highlighted: As this song deals with showers, i.e water , so we have to identify the  theme of 'Saving water' and using it efficiently.

11. Poo Pookum Osai

Movie: Minsara kanavu (1997)
Music Director: A.R.Rahman
Singers: Sujatha Mohan & Malasiya Vasudevan
Lyricist: Vairamuthu
Language: Tamil

Oh this magical song!! who could forget this haunting melody of Rahman and that cherubic voice of Sujatha. This song's remembrance itself connects everyone with nature. Kajol's beautiful performance, those beautiful shots at Mt.Everest, are just enough to etch this song in hearts of hearts. But Rahman and Vairamuthu always add that extravaganza for which we music lovers embrace on. That 'Hilkore hilkore' by Ma. Vasudevan makes the listeners go bonkers about it. I think this is one of the best song in Sujatha's career, she showers melodious showers on the listeners and her nasal voice makes the song sound as sweet as honey. She is the most underrated singer in Indian film industry.
Theme Highlighted: From the song, we can highlight the need for afforestation and the urgency in saving the renewable sources which are turning the snow caped into glaciers which is a symbol of optimistic danger (GLOBAL WARMING & GREEN HOUSE EFFECT)

12. Ghallu Ghallu

Movie: Indra (2002)
Music Director: Manisharma
Singers: S.P.Balasubrahmanyam, Mallikarjunna & Chorus
Lyricist: Sirivennala Seetharama Sastry
language: Telugu

This song has a very special place in hearts of Telugu people. This song celebrates the glory of 'RAIN' with lot of intensity and anguish. A popular place in Telugu states 'Rayalaseema' is known for its severe drought conditions and dry showers or no showers, but after a huge longing and wait, the almighty shows his mercy on these people and the sky prepares to shower all over in 'Rayalaseema' in the movie. Then this song is picturised. We all knew what this song is upto for any music lover, whole song gives goosebumps. Manisharma made it so thumping and bumping that there is no person who could'nt experience adrenaline rush!! Those beats, that instrumentation, that lyrics, that voice and 'Megastar' Chiranjeevi's screen presence made this song one of the evergreen in Telugu classics. SPB- the evergreen voice, elevates this song to a different level, a song made only for him. Mallikarjunna the budding talent got a break through from this song. Sastry garu's lyric speaks about 'Rayalaseema' and the 'Hero' which surely brings the rain down.
Theme Highlighted: This song has no message, only a true blissful experience and too proud that we have some great songs like this on our nature.

13. Barso Re

Movie: Guru (2007)
Music Director: A.R.Rahman
Singers: Shreya Ghoshal & Uday Mazumdar
Lyricist: Gulzar
Language: Hindi

How is Vairamuthu-Rahman combination in Tamil, like that is Gulzar-Rahman's combo. These legends one with their music & the other with their lyrics make us dance in rain surely. Coming to this peppy-melody I always wonder what is the need to compose this song in such a complicated way? Purely Rahman sir's things. When accepting Filmfare award for best play back singer Shreya told that initially while recording this song, she frightened whether she could atleast hear her voice when she was singing those lower notes. That is the way Rahman sir composes. When ever I hear to this, it reminds me of Aishwarya Rai, A.R.Rahman, Rain & Shreya Ghoshal. Total bliss to listen to this, this proved Shreya's potential to reach any height.
Theme Highlighted: This song has no message, only a true blissful experience and too proud that we have some great songs like this on our nature.

14. Aakasham Taakale

Movie: Nuvvostanate Nenoddantana (2006)
Music Director: Devi Sri Prasad
Singer: S.P.Balasubrahmanyam & Chorus
Lyricist: Sirivennala Seetharama Sastry
Language: Telugu

A song that has too be etched in our hearts for ever. I have nothing to speak about this wonderful song , if you have'nt heard it, just do it now. SPB's amazing rendition, DSP's composition, Sastry's lyric makes it evergreen and a perfect tribute to nature. DSP is best at these kind of songs. Sastry garu usually writes every song in the form of bundle questions which have no answers and this is no exception from his style. He writes " are we all aware of  the date when did our soul start growing in a mother's womb? are we all aware of the date when did love begin in a lover's heart? is there any word that describes love, if so does that word knew what love is? So our nature is the greatest creation that a history could'nt list about it , a poem could'nt describe and a musical note could'nt sing about it, that's the meaning of 'LOVE' now" amd again in second stanza he writes "without asking the burning  furnace we cannot judge whether it is mud or gold, the growing farm tells you the need that a framer does with his hardest ploughing capacity" he goes on describes love in strong connection with nature.
Theme Highlighted: Nature is your best friend who cares for you all the time at any instance.

15. Maanasa Veena

Movie: Hrudayanjali (1999)
Music Director: A.R.Rahman
Singer: K.S.Chitra & Chorus
Lyrics: Sirivennala Seetharama Sastry
Language: Telugu

This song is very close to my heart, if you have'nt heard this haunting melody, pl do it now, this is one of the beautiful melody that you should'nt forget listening to it in your life time, Rahman's magic is weaved in every corner of the song, this song starts with a heart beat and those beats continue till the end, with many turns. Its really lovely to hear to this, that flute in b/w is a sure mention. This song is a perfect tribute to nature, it speaks about the amazing beauty of the nature where the heroin highlights her desires to enjoy this beauty in a unique manner. Chitra's singing takes us into a trans, where we can imagine those green lands and estates of tea farms in Nilgiri hills without any visuals. Chitra elevates this song to different altitude, with superb expressions.
Sastry garu writes "Nature's string is singing at a silent note which is the first raaga 'Bhupaalam', the greenery on land has become my mother and its singing a lullaby " , "I wanna swim in a lake of moonlight and then sleep on beautiful flowers and then I should become a pigeon & should fly high in the sky and then I'll come back to earth as rain drop then I'll put up a camp house in b/w the stars in the sky, spend a night there and then as soon as I wake up I'll come down to earth and give my heart to the fresh and unique freedom".
