Karwaan is an upcoming 2018 Indian Bollywood slice of life comedy drama film, directed by Akarsh Khurana and produced by Ronnie Screwvala and Priti Rathi Gupta. The film stars Dulquer Salmaan, who is making his debut in the Hindi film industry with this film, along with Irrfan Khan and Mithila Palkar. The film is scheduled to release on 3 August 2018.

In August 2013, it was reported that Akarsh Khurana would be making his directorial debut with a dramedy written by Bejoy Nambiar, the story of which would revolve around three characters, going on a road trip. Initially it was reported that Arvind Swamy and Nawazuddin Siddiqui would be playing two of the three lead characters, but in May 2014 Bejoy Nambiar informed that as a result of modifications made in the script, Arvind Swamy would not be part of the project and Rajkummar Rao had been brought in to do the film which was titled Focus at that time.In June 2014, when the film was one month away from going on floors, director Akarsh Khurana opted out of the project owing to creative differences with Bejoy Nambiar, the writer and producer of the film. Bejoy Nambiar brought in Heeraz Marfatia as a replacement for Akarsh Khurana but the shooting of the film failed to take off and after several delays Bejoy decided to postpone the project for a year so as to focus on his own directorial venture Wazir.
In April 2017, it was reported that Ronnie Screwvala had decided to revive Bejoy Nambiar's Focus through his new production house RSVP Films and Akarsh Khurana had been brought back to direct the film with Irrfan Khan andAbhishek Bachchan in lead roles. In June 2017, Abhishek Bachchan parted ways with the film because the shooting schedule was clashing with that of Paltan, another project of his that he was doing with J.P. Dutta. In August 2017, Akarsh Khurana informed that Dulquer Salmaan and Mithila Palkar had been finalized to play the central characters in the film along with Irrfan Khan. On September 1, 2017 the first look of the film was unveiled, through which it was revealed that the film had been given the name Karwan.
Dulquer Salmaan, this Malayalam star who gained immense popularity in no time is making a debut in Hindi Industry with his Pan-Indian craze. DQ's films in Malayalam, Tamil & Telugu made great impressions in turning his  career as a blocbuster, people in North too wanted his films in dubbed versions, I think there would be very few people who did'nt watch Ok Kanmani or Charlie or  atleast Solo, they were rage hits, so this South star's debut, in Hindi would'nt be problem. We knew very well how DQ aces through his acting with all those cute & professional mannerisms in all of his films. Rest all is left to the screen play, story & direction, lets see what happens on August 3.

Lets directly go into the review.

01. Chota Sa Fasana

Singer: Arijith Singh
Music: Anurag Saikia
Lyrics: Aksharh Khurana
Rating: 4/5

This is a good melodious treat with a romantic vintage. Music is as usual Hi-Fi those clarinets, Keyboards take the major pie in instrumentation of the song. Anurag, this National Awardee made the tune simple, sweet & uber cool. This song makes a good time in all your journeys. Aksharh took care of the lyrics, they are simple & neat again depicting the scenario of a particular part in the movie. Coming to the vocals, as usual Arijith Singh makes it feel heavenly, the magic is in his voice, I always tell this. Especially, when he breaths through those high octaves, its like a treat to our ears. I used he breathes rather than saying he sings, b'coz he puts all his soul in every song & makes it a chart buster. A simple song, yet mellifluous, makes your time & refreshes your mood.

- ARIJITH SINGH ( VOCALIST )

02. Heart Quake

Singer: Papon
Music: Anurag Saikia
Lyrics: Aksharh Khurana
Rating: 5/5

This is a melodious romantic song. This is a true gem, loved every part of the song, its too simple yet very effective. Listening to this 'mujhko bhi heart quake hua', such a lovely song. Interludes are banged with tabla beats & electronic guitars, but never sounds crowded. All the instrumentation is lite, I mean its influenzed with light music, but the tune is classical with a bit modern ting & lyrics bring a youthful exuberance , its like a mixture of all kinds. Sounds easy, melodious & lovely. Akshar's lyrics are too good. Papon's voice is heavenly. A song, that stays with you for a while.

- ANURAG SAIKIA ( COMPOSER )

03. Dhaai Kilo Bakwaas

Singer: Slow Cheeta, Anish John, Sanjeev Kumar Nair & Shwetang Shankar
Music: Slow Cheeta
Lyrics: Slow Cheeta
Rating: 2/5

This is a fun ridden song, with some crazy elements filling the space. We hear few Malayalam words hear & there, then we hear Tamil & Hindi, as people in this movie have to go to Coimbathore, there this song is placed, I guess. Its funny overall. A song which connects through visuals, this song even features a rap. Slow Cheeta's music is apt, lyrics are fine, singing is ok. We even hear Dulquer's laugh in the beginning &  in the end. A song, on which I can't speak more, left to the movie.

04. Bhar De Hamara Glass

Singer: Saba azaad
Music: Imaad Shah
Lyrics: Imaad Shah
Rating: 3/5

This is a female song with some sensuous feel. Don't know what's the situation, but has some different genre with some effective instrumentation. Of course, you'll love the song, but only if you are interested with it. Imaad Shah plays safe with his respective duties. Saba Azad is too good. a song that might appeal after few loops.

05. Kadam

Singer: Prateek Khuhad
Music: Prateek Khuhad
Lyrics: Prateek Khuhad
Rating: 3/5

One more romantic male solo, with very lite instrumentation, & minimal tune, which is in the same rhythm pattern till the end. Song is too slow & boring, but makes its pace with the time being. Slowly few beats add on to the looping guitar notes, but song picks after the second interlude. There are some places, where the vocalists adds extra stress on words like ' वक़्तततत भी ' which is fine musically. Mostly this song is in the form of Ghazal which we are fond of, but it has been too long listening to such genres, so this song makes a mark on the listeners. If you'r a ghazal lover, surely you'll enjoy this.

06. Heart Quake (After Shocks)

Singer: Papon & Slow Cheeta
Music: Anurag Saikia
Lyrics: Akshar Khurana & Slow Cheeta
Rating: 3/5

This the same song 'Heart Quake' but presented with a remix version. I think this is break up song, the way 'heart quake hua' is said is too good. There in the above version, heart has quaked because its for the first time that hero has fallen in love with the heroin but here the heart quakes because its a break up & lyricist knew very well how to describe the situation & bring in the comparisons between two different feelings. Papon emoted well, his singing & expression synchronized very well. Anurag brought in a rap of Slow Cheeta which helped the song no where. Anurag could'nt show the difference in his music, in two versions like how the lyricist & singer did. How ever the above one is great, this is crowded & lost its keen.

- PAPON ( VOCALIST )

07. Saasein

Singer: Prateek Khuhad
Music: Prateek Khuhad
Lyrics: Prateek Khuhad
Rating: 3/5

One more ghazal. Prateek Khuhad did'nt have any change with his above song 'Kadam' & this one, both sound similar, but the change is that it picks up initially. But this song cannot be any where better, here instrumentation is contemporary, tune is cool & simple, lyrics are fine. A song which might again appeal to ghazal lovers or light music lovers.

Picks Of The Album: Heart Quake & Chota Sa Fasana

OVERALL RATING: 6/10

REMARKS: Wishing DQ a very all the best for his debut and ATB to the whole team 'Karwaan'. Slated to release on August 3.
