Movie: Srinivasa Kalyanam (శ్రీనివాస కళ్యాణం)- 2018

Director: Vegesna Satish

Producer: Dil Raaju & Shirish

Cast: Nithin & Raashi Khanna

Music: Mickey J Meyer

Music label: Adithya Music

'Sathamanambhavathi' team is back with one more traditional-family cultured film- 'Srinivasa Kalyanam' starring Nithin & Raashi Khanna in lead roles & Nanditha Swetha, Prakash Raj, Jayasudha & others in supportive roles. A film from them always entertains the 1st grade family audience to a full extent depicting the importance & beauty of 'Telugu" nativity & culture. It always seems nice & good to watch this kind of films which can be purely attributed to Telugu cinema. Sathamanambhavathi won a 'National Award' for providing wholesome entertainment in Telugu genre, so lets see what this film is awaiting for.

Usually, music matters a lot with this kind of films, as usual 'Mickey J Meyer' has been roped to compose music. His soft spoken melodies takes the films to a different level. We need'nt expect anything from Mickey, he surely makes it a blockbuster in his style. Always those beautiful melodies featuring Telugu nativity all over makes him a 1st grade music director like that of M.M.Keeravani, whose music sounds Telugu & is seen with Telugu, b'coz when we hear to Keeravani's songs, we can rather imagine & view the visuals of beautiful nativity than listening to the song, that's the effect Keeravani puts on to the songs. Same is the case with Mickey.

01. Kalyanam Vibhogam

Singer: S.P.Balasubrahmanyam
Additional Vocals: Ramya Behra, Mohana Bhogaraju & Anurag Kulkarni
Lyricist: Srimani
Rating: 5/5

This title song stays  in the hearts of 'Telugu' people, forever. Like  'SVSC' title song this is one more song depicting Telugu nativity & culture. Its so beautifully composed, sung & written. This song tells us about the history & importance of 'Kalyanam'(Marriage). Mickey's instrumentation is sonorous. Two simple Keyboard notes start as prelude then couple of beats add on, later the vocals follow, then comes Nadaswaram as a interlude & its the same sound which is heard  in all interludes at last leaving the listeners in a trans with blissful experience. This kinds are not new for Mickey or even for us, we know very well that Mickey masters this kinds brilliantly. Coming to the lyrics, Srimani wrote some sublime lyrics which will stay evergreen forever. Though there might come en numerous songs like this in future, even though we had ample of songs on 'Kalyanam' in past, there is yet something to say & Srimani fills that very well  with this song. He writes about the 'kalyanam' of all the lords(Rama, Krishna & Venkateshwara), indicating their significance. I can say allot about his lyrics, but we fall short in words to describe his great asset.

Coming to the constituent part- Vocalist, Mickey knows very well about the selection of singers. To cash the song, their must come such a evergreen singer whose rendition makes the song evergreen & its S.P.Balasubrahmanyam. From how many years we all are listening to him? probably  from past 5 decades! but yet how his voice sounds so fresh!! It's a wonder. He is ageless, his rendition is flawless & song is marvelous. A legend for a reason. He makes this song his own, listening to him makes every Telugu person pride of his/her culture & heritage. Thank you, Mickey for making a legend sing an evergreen song which can be etched in hearts of hearts. Mickey should be commended, for the selection of singer, b'coz this song is completely dependent on the vocalist & he brought SPB to do that honor. We yet did'nt forget about the SVSC title song by evergreen Chitra, same is this song. I meant this is one more classic.

-SINGER 'S.P.BALASUBRAHMANYAM'

Ramya Behra's & Mohana Bhogaraju's singing is good along with Anurag.

02. Ekkada Nuvunte

Singers: Dhanunjay
Lyricist: Srimani
Rating: 3/5

Routine hero's intro song in Mickey's style. It's like a rehash of Mukanda & SVSC's title song. But song is'nt that intolerable, b'coz of the instrumentation, Mickey rocked it as usual. That second interlude is too neatly mastered to not deviate listener's interest from this boring routine tune. We heard many of this genres & yet we get to hear to this kinds. Dhanunjay inspite of auto-tuner failed terribly to ace through the vocals, his voice had no energy, his rendition lacked the keen sense of music. A song that can be heard only for the sake of instrumentation otherwise it's a trash.

03. Ithadena Ithadena

Singers: Shreya Ghoshal
Lyricist: Srimani
Rating: 4/5

This is a melodious female solo which is absolutely styled in Mickey's flavor. Song picks on slowly but is very unique & mellifluous. Instrumentation is brilliant. We hear to few beats banging on the board along with few electronic guitars making noise, this sort of instrumentation goes on increasing it's volume till the end. As usual, in Mickey's mark, the singer is asked to sing in different tones & then he mixes them both, at some places singer is asked to sing in a very squeaky tone, to which Mickey is fond of. We heard such types in his earlier albums like 'Gopikamma', 'aaraduguluntada' songs, which made him a unique composer, this song is no where exception from his trademark. Srimani does his job well, but somewhere lacks consistency. Shreya Ghoshal, the princess offscreen, makes it more melodious & sweet with her versatile rendition. Whenever she sings, she makes sure that she has proved her existence with some extraordinary way of singing.  She rocks it as usual, her voice elevates the song to a different level. Her voice & the expression  is a booster to the song, the way she sings 'ithadena ithadena' is spell-bounding. overall a melodious treat.

04. Modaludaam

Singers: Anurag Kulkarni & Sunitha
Lyricist: Ramjogayya Sastry
Rating: 4/5

This is a romantic duet once again done in a unique style with Mickey's savour & components like the above one. The same lyric is sung in different tones & mixed together, chorus sings along with the vocalists in harmony, then singers are asked to make it too squeaky, which irritates a bit, like he has made sound Ramya Behra in 'Gelupuleni Samaram' song in Mahanati. But overall, this song is endurable. I don't know why only this is penned by RJS. He does a fair job. Lyrics aren't awful but they aren't creepy too. Sunitha, the most underrated singer of Tollywood, has to yet get her due. Now'a'days she is selected in songs where she does'nt fit, but Mickey realised where she belongs to & brought her here. Her sweet husky voice suits to the T. Except that squeaky tone everything is fine, we can't blame her for that, its music director's fault. Anurag got lost into the instrumentation, sounded dumb, few words sounded awkward in his accent. Overall, a well made song.

05. Something Somethingga

Singers: Anurag Kulkarni, Sravana Bhargavi & Raashi Khanna
Lyricist: Srimani
Rating: 4/5

This is party song in Mickey's style, once again. But unique for sure. Mickey's instrumentation is fine. Srimani's lyrics are fine. Anurag excels this time at vocals. He made sure that his existence was audible enough. The way he sang those phrases in that westernized style, is too good. Sravana is Ok along with Raashi Khanna, they did a commendable job. Anurag should be lionized for singing this song, b'coz he did a laudable task.

-SINGER 'ANURAG KULKARNI'

06. Vinavamma Thoorupu Chukka

Singers: Sunitha
Chorus: Sridevi, Padma, Ramya Behra, Mohana bhogaraju & Anil Annimalle
Lyricist: Srimani
Rating: 5/5

Mickey this time is back with his trademark tune with that traditional essence. A song that makes marriages much enjoyable. This song describes whole scenario before marriage, that commotion, excitement & happiness. Instrumentation is excellent. Srimani does this fine. His lyrics are sublime once again. Whole song takes a huge support from the chorus & they did a praiseworthy job. Ramya Behra's voice is clearly audible even in that noisy chorale, showcasing her talent. Song goes on changes its pace to differentiate between the tasks before the marriage. 'Mangalamani Mangalamani' sounded extraordinary. Sunitha's voice is awful, a perfect choice for a perfect song. She does an amazing job, this is where she fits to T. Loved her rendition. She has been cherubic bringing that energetic lilt.

- SINGER 'SUNITHA'

07. Kalyanam Vibhogam (Climax version)

Singers: S.P.Balasubrahmanyam
Chorus: Ramya Behra, Mohana Bhogaraju & Anurag Kulkarni
Lyricist: Srimani
Rating: 3/5

First song is presented in a different version titled as climax version, with all different lyrics. Don't know what's the need to present it in two different version with same music & singers. Lyrics are for surely different, but did'nt sound that great like the above one. Might be the first one is used at title card & this is in the movie. What ever it is, above one sounded great. May be Mickey would have given this to some female singer, then this would have sounded effective, as both are sung by SPB in same manner, I could'nt find any difference. I have nothing to speak about instrumentation or singing, b'coz I spoke it in the above version, & same applies here.

Picks Of The Album:  Vinavamma Thurupu Chukka , Kalyanam Vibhogam(Version-1) & Ithadena Ithadena

OVERALL RATING: 8/10
