Yatra (English: Journey) is an upcoming (as of July 2018) Indian Telugu-language biographical film about Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy, who served as Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh from 2004 to 2009. The film is written and directed by Mahi V. Raghav and stars Mammootty as YSR. Principal photography commenced on 20 June 2018 in Hyderabad.
After Mahanti, TFI is an a row to make movies on real life characters(biographies), TFI director's will'nt be satisfied until something becomes really more & start giving boredom to the audience. Lets see how far & long this 'Biopic Fashion' runs. This film marks the remarkable 'Paadayatra' of the former chief minister of united Andhrapradesh- 'Dr.Y.S.Rajashekhar Reddy'. It's quite interesting to look into the biopic, to watch the struggle & pain that he underwent to become the chief minister of a region & win the hearts of thousands. of people. I don't think it's that necessary now to make it into a film about which people already know. Lets wait for it's release & watch what impact it makes.
All the music is composed by K & lyrics penned by legendary Padmashree Sirivennala garu & a song goes to Penchal Dass.
01. Samara Shankam
Vocalists: Kaala Bhairava & Chorale
Lyricist: Sirivennala Seetharama Sastry
Rating: 3/5
This is the first song that marks the remarkable initiative of the former CM to walk all throughout the state for the welfare of united Andhra people & this is one of the greatest incident that has been ever witnessed by Telugu people & which gained YSR immense popularity to showcase himself as kingmaker. Coming to the song, tune & vocals are below par. Song started with some imposing prelude but fails to impress thoroughly. Beats should be little more powerful, to give the impact, & moreover after rendering 2 lines of the song, it lacks consistency in rhythm. Though interludes are well made, they could'nt help due to the bland tuning & wearisome synchronization. Kaala Bhairava, who gets the routine stuff everywhere, but will'nt impress anywhere until that becomes an exception, like in Dandallayya or Tholiprema. He has too improve alot in terms of singing. Coming to the lyrics, Sastry garu is perfect but has'nt given his best, maybe due to the monotonous tune.
02. Manditho Paatuga
Vocalists: Sai Charan
Lyricist: Sirivennala Seetharama Sastry
Rating: 4/5
Coming to the second one, it's a song that narrates the confusion that YSR underwent, whether to take that precarious initiative to walk all around the state or not. Here Sastry garu comes to his full form, he depicts the pain though his exalted level of penning the song. Song speaks about the scepticism to choose over working for people or staying calm like everyone. He asks himself whether to move forward with the voiceless people who cannot question the guilty or to take a initiative that motivates the people to come with him & Sastry garu excels at delivering his best. K has done a quite good job here, everything tune, orchestration struck the right chord. Sai Charan is amazing, he sounded perfect.
03. Pallello Kala Undi
Vocalists: S.P.Balasubrahmanyum
Lyricist: Sirivennala Seetharama Sastry
Rating: 3.5/5
Third song deals with the pathetic conditions of farmers in Andhrapradesh, especially the people who were hit with drought in Raayalaseema regions. Once again Sirivennala manifests his literary skills & shows us why he has been legend since decades. He writes "villages are the rich heritage & backbone of our country- this statement simply does'nt come into reality, only when some miracles happen, the penury & faith of farmers will change, so when that cannot happen, simply reciting the above statement is of no use!!" later he questions us "when the fertility of soil is lost & dried out will plants shoot up? & will our so called backbone stand still if the farmer starves??" these lines are enough to showcase Sastry garu's literary skills.Took a bow for these words sir.
K again comes back to his inconsistent form of composing music, again the instrumentation of song lacks power & is wearisome to bare upon yet song is'nt that creepy. Tune of the song is melancholic & brilliant however. SPB renders the song with lot of dedication & love like always. This voice is ageless & nevertheless perfect. The expression that he adds on to the song gives a brilliant advancement to the song. Overall a well made song.
04. Raajanna Ninnaapagalara
Vocalists: Vandemataram Srinivas & Chorale
Lyricist: Sirivennala Seetharama Sastry
Rating: 4/5
This is song celebrates the saga of YSR. K does his job perfectly yet has that ting of variabilty. Instrumentation needs some proper synchronization. If not for that Sastry garu has done his job. But the actual power lied in Vandeamataram Srinivas garu to carry the whole song on his shoulders. What a voice! What a rendition! what an expression Sir, took a bow for your'e rendition. It's so nice to hear to him after a long gap. I don't know who's the female singer who sang along with him, but she sounded sonorous. Overall a neat attempt.
05. Nee Raaka Kosam
Vocalists: Shankar Mahadevan & Chorale
Lyricist: Sirivennala Seetharama Sastry
Rating: 2.5/5
This is that song which is like a people's anthem. Here people are assuring that legend that they are with him & he dosen't need to worry, they tell him that they have restored/regained trust in worthy leaders like him. K has tuned it well with a neat orchestration. Lyrics are ok. Shankar Mahadevan in Telugu films!! it's been a very long time listening to him. But he fails to make his impact in the song, whole song is like being sung by chorus, but he has'nt showed any variation in singing this song like a pro. Howeever song doesn't sound out of form, but lacks a lot of energy & enthusiasm.
06. Marugainavaa Rajanna
Vocalist: Penchal Dass & Chorale
Lyricist: Penchal Dass
Rating: 3/5
A melancholic song which depicts the grief & sorrow that instilled in everyone in Telugu states, when YSR left all of us. Penchal Dass has a great way of narrating the nativity through his Rayalaseema dialect. His voice, his rendition & every phrase gives goosebumps. Purely the song is situational. Might be the legendary Mammootty fills up the screen with his grace & charm in acting. K fills the background with couple of beats, a sorrowful shenayi & a melancholic chorus.
