Coming to music, it's composed by none other than the mastero A.R.Rahman. He has composed 4 tracks with an instrumental, with Vivek getting the solo card for lyrics. Now, lets fare the album.
01. Singappenney
Vocalists: A.R.Rahman, Shahaasha Tripati & Chorus
Rating: 4/5
'Singappenney' though appears strong & rocking in terms of instrumentation yet gives a very strong message through the lyrics. It's all about applauding the women for their deeds & throwing a limelight at the weaker sections of women & according them with plenty of inspiration & motivation. Vivek aces through the lyrics, every phrase appears thought provoking. He tries to highlight the different angle of the song rather than going into the usual path & writing about all the hypothetical issues, that is where song takes an elevation & is brilliantly mastered by the 'Mastero', instrumentation is thumping with strong beats & keyboard notes which perfectly justify the lyrics. Even the interlude made with 'Bigil' sound strikes the chord. Rendition by Rahman & Shahaasha is really commendable, they just justify the song aptly & the song gets a great support from the chorale. Overall its is a song which strikes for the first attempt itself.
02. Verrithannam
Vocalists: Vijay & Chorus
Rating: 3.5/5
No matter in what mood you listen to this number, surely it'll make you tap your feet & nod your heads. Not even a single second of the track is wasted, something goes on every moment & it engages the listeners in such a way that you might feel youre' missing something if your'nt concentrating, such is the rhythm. Vijay's nazal voice is a big plus to the song, his expressions, accent everything will surely give goosebumps. The chorale to is brilliant, especially that child portion alongside the female vocalist. Second interlude is formed with lead by kuthu styled beats, when one listens to them you're in a dubiety whether the composer is really A.R.Rahman, coz nothing appears to be in his template yet clicks on for that fresh in it. Orchestration aces the tune & rendition, where rendition aces the orchestration at places, giving a perfect kuthu feel to listeners. Overall, song is like"it's one more from Rahman".
03. Unakaga
Vocalists: Madhura Dhaara Talluri & Sreekanth hariharan
Rating: 4/5
Here is a beautiful melody in complete Rahman's template for the lead cast. How nice it is to listen to this mellifluous compositions which gives an effigy of montage shots. Though the track is in sooth is in a much slower tempo yet does'nt lose it's flavor or essence, starting the song on a sonorous flute note till the mridangam joins & till the percussion takes over & till the harmony adds on, track is full of magical elements which take us to the trans. The tune is purely Rahmantic, nothing more about his greatness. Vivek just takes the song to a different level with his poetic lines. Vocalists are really a surprising elements in the song, Super Singer contestant Sreekanth gets a chance here & it's never less than a blessing to sing under the legends composition in a very short period. Madhura sang it amazing, she's just angelic. At last it's a composition which has got no words to express.
04. Maathare
Vocalists: Vithusayni, Chinamyi, Akshara, Madhura Dhaara Talluri, A.R.Rahman & Chorus
Rating: 3.5/5
All the vocalists with a big group of chorale join to put up a divine show with plenty of divinity in it. That slow tempo, carnatic tune & mridangam beats make the song a very unique one from every others in the album. The lyricist tells you what's the importance of such elements in this song, he writes about the approach towards women in the society, the words that came from his pen are no less valuable than noble metals. He compares the women to God & speaks about their superiority in the society. The way Rahman has tuned this song is something jaw dropping, his instrumentation, tuning & the way of selecting vocalists will leave us speachless. All the vocalists deserve a standing ovation for this number, they were in such sync. Thanks to the director, for such great song.
05. Bigil Bigil Bigiluma
Instrumental
Rating: 3/5
We find such instrumentals very rarely & when they are out, never miss an oppurtunity to listen to them to the fullest. Track is completely beaten alongside the kuthu beats led by steel drums, thumba beats & wooden claps. A track that helps with elevation scenes. Irrespective how excellent the track, we will'nt find any Rahman's signature here.
