Uppena Audio Review- Telugu (2021)

 Movie: Uppena- 2021 (ఉప్పెన )

Director: Buchi Babu Saana

Producers: Naveen, Ravi Shankar & Sukumar

Cast: Panja Vaishnav Tej, Krithi Shetty, Vijay Sethupathi & Others

Music: 'Rockstar' Devisri Prasad

Music Label: Aditya Music

"Uppena" the most happening Telugu film of 2021!! Everywhere you go, we will listen some or the others gossiping about this film. Such a great combination of brilliant performances, plot & music!! Kuddos to the director & the cast for selecting such raw plot which needs lots of guts. Vaishnav Tej & Krithi Shetty debuting through the film get a lot of scope to grab the eyes of audience with their debut film itself, both of them had to do a lot to engage the rustic plot with their performances & Vijay Sethupathi adds on just like that!!
Though the film had alot to tell, DSP never left a chance to prove himself, with every song & BGM in the film he showcases what a quality music is!! His score is definitely a plus to the film. Film had many songs, only 6 got released, but I guess there are 8 songs in the film. When we watch a good film with some good music we cannot brace ourselves without praising the works, so here we go with faring this album.

01. Nee Kannu Neeli Samudram

Vocalists: Javeed Ali & Sreekanth Chandra
Lyricists: Sri Mani & Raqueeb Alam (Hindi Lyrics)
Rating: 4/5

The song which celebrated 100 million views on the Youtube platform & which is topping charts since months & months.Released almost a year ago is still on a loop on many playlists!! As I always say a good backdrop will never let DSP let go off his hand, he just owns it & does all the magic. Surprisingly Raqueeb Alam is back but with his lyrics, I expected he would sing that chorus part too like in Varsham or Khadgam. Srimani pens an amazing coastal track, his lyrics just give us a feel about being in a beach. Like DSP has a fascination of getting the singers sung in a peculiar style, Javeed Ali does all those experimentation in singing those swift dynamics, but one would be awestruck listening to his rendition which sounds absolutely effortless. A great song, it's so refreshing, felt like listening to an amazing song after years!!

02. Dhak Dhak Dhak

Vocalists: Sarath Santhosh & Haripriya
Lyricists: Chandrabose
Rating: 3.5/5

Absolutely a different love track, at first I did'nt like the way it was composed, but slowly it just hit me!! A track that almost resembles "Ganga AC" track from the film Sye, yet nothing is similar in the terms of tuning, just the way it is composed is similar. It's really tough to compose a track which uses the surrounding noises in the film to make it into a song, but DSP & Chandrabose make it a way simpler & beautiful. Both the vocalists did a commendable job. Overall it just amuses with the lovely visuals.

03. Ranguladdukunna

Vocalists: Yazin Nizar & Haripriya
Lyricist: Srimani
Rating: 3.5/5

One more beautiful love track, DSP is just rocking with every song. The song is neat, soft & mellifluous, takes us back to those good olden days of some great music. This song is such a great combination of brilliant composition, melodious vocals & some poetic lyrics. Astonishingly Yazin Nizar never made any mistake in the song, he sounded really great. Haripriya, a new singer sounded excellent, sad that we don't find such talents getting many chances.  When the story cannot progress with just dialogues as a sole, we need such songs as some refreshing fillers.

04. Jala Jala Paatham

Vocalists: Jaspreeth Jaaz & Shreya Ghoshal
Lyricist: Sri Mani
Rating: 3/5

A song made for a special situation in the film & carried out excellently too! DSP proves every time that he is a competent music director & his range cannot be defined with few flops or hits, he has a standard & this song is that standard. Just listening to the second interlude one can tell what his capability is!! Who can even dare to induce such rustic instrumentation into a typical slow number like this!! Sri Mani like usual always tries to do something unusual & he too constantly tries to show how he is different from other lyricists! But the entire problem lies with the vocalists, Shreya Ghoshal, my favorite, though singing since years in Telugu cannot pronounce some simple words in the song, what does "ఆపాడ్డాం" mean? I don't understand why doesn't she put that dedication while singing Telugu songs especially, is it because she is overrated here? Jaspreeth Jaaz really does'nt have that range to sustain those high pitched octaves, this is where we miss singers like Hemachandra & Revanth for whom it's just a cakewalk to sing such songs.

05. Eeshwara

Vocalist: Devi Sri Prasad
Lyricist: Chandrabose
Rating: 3.5/5

A melancholic song with some Chandrabos-ish lyrics. It can be termed as one more typical composition, at the first attempt I thought DSP wrongly decided to sing the song, but when I heard it in the theater I found it really great. Instrumentation was really engaging. Maybe it sounds like a contemporary prayer song & DSPS' voice fumes all the required expressions too!!

06. Samudram Lona Neerantha

Vocalist: Sean Roldan
Lyricist: Devi Sri Prasad
Rating: 3.5/5

This song in the theater made everyone weep!! DSP's tuning & lyrics both win at the instant. Like I was saying every song in the film had it's emotion, 8 songs in a contemporary film is not a normal thing, one would easily get piqued with song after song, but this film had songs to tell alot of plot in-spite of any unnecessary elements. DSP rightly knew what to write when the father of the hero dies in the film, this is how the song should be, neither loud nor too low. Sean Roldan being a alien to Telugu music yet managed really well. Indeed a heart-wrenching song!

07. Ninne Naa Ninne

Vocalist: Sameera Bharadwaj
Lyricist: Sri Mani
Rating: 3.5/5

A beautifully orchestred pathos. Sameera has some authentic voice & she uses that to full extent here to add the extravaganza to the song & her expressions absolutely justify the track. DSP is really on high, every song is a gem in the album.

08. Silaka Silaka

Vocalist: Kailash Kher
Lyricist: Sri Mani
Rating: 4/5

One more number from DSP, with this track the album reaches a grand finale with lot of pomp & colour. After too many situationals & emotional tracks this number just takes the swag to a different level. DSP's singer Kailash Kher is here, dunno why he sounds really great in all his compositions. Just this song will make you tap your feet like that!! Orchestration too is damn perfect & Sri Mani's lyrics are catchy, they just play on our lips. Overall, this album is a mixed emotion!!

Picks Of The Album: Entire Album

OVERALL RATING: 8/10

REMARKS: Every song in the film is like a diamond, suiting to the backdrop. DSP is one of the major pillar of the film, his music elevated the film. Every song is a gem, DSP is back & for sure this album will stay for a little while. Hope you all watched the film, if did'nt go & watch, it is an amazing film.
